Interview with forum member k06mars
PERSONAL RELATED QUESTIONS:
Q: Care to share any background or family related info with THF (have any
kids? a spouse? etc.)? A: Well, being that I'm still in school, I'd like to think there aren't any
little Mars' running around. In my immediate family I have 2 older
brothers and 2 younger sisters - yup, the middle child and youngest
brother, meaning I was beat and forgotten as a kid
Q: What is your Profession? Have you had any other professions prior to your current one? A: As stated above, I'm still in school.
That said, I (should) be graduating
in May at which point, I'll probably go into civil service for a short
time, at the same time building up websites. By the time I'm 30, I'd like
to be able to say the bulk of my income will be coming from websites I
design.
Q: Besides poker, what else interests you? A: Computers, video games, and alcohol (sometimes all three at once

) are
generally what I'm doing if I'm not on THF. While my knees don't
appreciate it so much, I also enjoy playing tennis whenever possible.
Q: Whats your favorite book/ movie? A:Would the Dark Tower Series (7 books, over 4000 pages) count as a single
book? If so, then that's my answer. Stephen King's best work, without a
doubt. If you want a good movie, I'd say it's a tossup between Boondock
Saints, The Usual Suspects, and Se7en.
Q: What are your pet peeves? A: Lying and lack of common sense are what drive me nuts.
You lie to me or show you lack common sense (particularly when we're face to face), expect
a rage like no other. Everything else, though, I can handle.
Q: Your worst fear? A: Hillary getting elected this year
Q: Take us through a day in the life for you: A: There is no such thing as "A day in the life" for me.
Depending on the day, I could be waking up between 830am and noon
(sometimes later). This is usually followed by a shower and (sometimes) breakfast. Then things get screwy.
If I have class that day, well...I'm in and out of class until 2:30. If I
have work, then I have a fun 90 minutes of commuting on the bus to my
workplace (even though it's only a 10 minute drive or so). If it's
Saturday, I'm spending the day with under-priviledged inner city kids. If
it's Sunday, I'm probably recovering from a hangover before starting up my
poker games.
Night's consist of video games, poker, hanging out with friends, etc.,
until it's deemed too late (I'm generally the one who wants to stay up
until 3am, even if I have to be up until 8:30am the next day!)
Q: Who are your heroes? A:I don't really have any heroes.
I have some great friends who I know
would do anything for me (and me, likewise for them), but in terms of the
common-thought definition of "hero", I don't have any.
Q: Do you know personally or have met anybody famous? A: Well, I do know myself
Q: Explain what a perfect day would be like for you: A: Let's see...2-3 hours of tennis in 65-70 degree weather (perfect for my knees), followed by 2-3 hours of poker and beer with good friends. Close it out with video games (and beer) before sleep.
POKER RELATED QUESTIONS: Q: What is your biggest poker cash or accomplishment? A: I think the best I've done is winning a $165 ticket to some fairly big event on PokerStars, accomplished through a $10 rebuy (I used neither rebuy nor addon).
Q: Are you more of a tournament player or ring games? What buy-in/stakes do you play at? A: While I'd think my style (LAG) would work more for ring games, as blinds never rise, it seems to work more in SnGs and tournaments. Probably has something to do with the stakes I play ($5 SnGs and tourney's mostly), as players are more concerned with making the money at this level than
winning big. This (generally) allows me to abuse them if I have any sort
of stack when bubble time comes around.
Q: Do you play competitively or for recreation? How much time per week do you spend on poker? A: I play recreationally, but that doesn't mean I'm doing everything in my
power to win each game I play. While I believe I am better in skill than
every player in a SnG I enter about 90% of the time, I realize I don't
stand a chance against the pros out there. For me, it's simply best to
play a game or two each day (maybe more if I have free time and no one is
doing anything).
Q: Do you have a favorite poker pro? If so, why are they your favorite? A: Daniel Negreanu, without a doubt. He's dead on with reads, definitely
plays the player, and is a blast to watch. While the same can be said
about some of the loudmouths such as Hellmuth or Matesow, Negreanu simply
tries to have a good time with the players as he takes all their money
away.
Q: Briefly explain how you got into poker (Possibly include age, influences, and location) A: Entering my freshman year of college, a friend asked if I wanted in on a
poker game one of the very first weekends. I lost quite a bit that
semester, as I wasn't thinking of the mathematical side of the game at all
(and frankly, the players were donks who you couldn't bluff at all).
However, the fact that I played so many hands, meant that I did have to
get a good read on players in order to stand a chance at all. Since
switching my on-campus poker group, I've kept my post-flop skills while
tightening up my game.
Q: What is your favorite poker site to play on? A: While pokerstars is great since you can join a SnG anytime you want, their
support sucks. The sites with better support, however...don't have the
traffic to allow you to join a $5 SnG within 1 minute of signing in. So,
really, I don't have a favorite. While I play a lot on pokerstars, I have
money on a number of other sites as well (Bugsy's Club, Pitbull, Third
Bullet, and Poker4ever, in no particular order).
Q: Do you have a favorite (Hold'em) hand? A: Q9, suited or otherwise. Whenever I'm given a chance to play the hand, I
seem to flop two pair, trips, a straight (or solid draw), etc. There are
very few times this hand has gotten me in trouble.
Q: As of today, what are your poker ambitions? A: When I first realized I could make money online playing poker, I set out a
goal to purchase my first car with my winnings. Nothing fancy, just a
used car with a bunch of mileage that I can get for cheap. I figure I'm
about $1000 short of that goal right now (I've netted about $1400). Once
that car is bought, my goal is to rebuild my bankroll back to where I can
comfortably play $5 and $10 games, without depositing.
THF RELATED QUESTIONS: Q: Who's poker related posts on THF do you find most useful or most agree with? A: Ahh, questions that can get the leader in trouble, I like it

.
Here's the thing with usefulness as it relates to posts I agree with. If
I agree with the point being made, the post isn't very useful to me, as
I'm not being given the argument to counter my viewpoint.
The useful ones, rather, are the ones that I don't agree with at all, but
STILL HOLD some academic merit. For instance, I think calling an all in
with 72o is a bad play. Donkey member 7letters

disagrees with me. I'm
sorry, there is no way his argument would ever hold any academic merit.
Rather, the useful post would be one that says you shouldn't limp in early
position with 66 for reasons x, y, and z. Sure, I may not agree with it,
but it makes me think about my game, and why I think I should limp with 66
(if in fact I do).
So, after that long explanation of why there's no such thing as a post
that is both useful and agreed upon...I feel most members at THF have some
insight that prove useful. Realistically, the one's I like the most are
the ones that start a thread and ask a question, as there are usually
questions that I hadn't thought of myself.
Q: If you could choose one player on THF to play heads up against for $1000 who would you choose? A: 7letters, without a doubt
Q: Who on THF do you think is most likely to be successfully in their poker career? A: While it's certainly possible for someone to move up from $5 SnGs and
Tourneys to the $200+ level (and win), it's not exactly easy, and after a
while the fun in the game can be lost. For me, success is measured in how
much you are enjoying yourself. If you are forced to grind it out to make
your profit, the success has already been lost.
Anyone who's capable of keeping sight of the fun involved while player
poker, regardless of stakes, is a successful member (so, any member who
reads this interview: yes, you are successful).
Q: Who on THF do you think is most likely to be the next person banned? A: If it were up to me, it'd be 7letters...or should I say stokenut?
Q: Who are your top 5 players on THF: A: In no particular order:
Fink, Cowboy, RW, bryan, and river d rat.
I'd like to say though (partially to save my ass

) that there are a
number of good players on THF, and I'm sure a number of those who read
this can kick my ass. These just happen to be the ones who sprang to
mind, from both past and present experience with them.
