Talking All-In protection......

Now after searching for a new site to start ring games on I decided to deposit to UB (recommended by Big Bad Ben), only $50 mind you but they have one of the best bonus clearing systems I have come across (very simialar to PS)....however it keep telling me on my cashier screen that I still have 2 all-in protections left.....now I've never known what all in protection is as I have only seen it at cash games of course and I am rather new to them.....If anyone can enlighten me it would be very much appriciated.

Thanks In Advance.

~Sonny

Sonny, all in protection is the number of times you can win the "main" pot after disconnecting... Let's say that you have a 3 way pot, for $6 each preflop...pot is around $18 right... you disconnect due to a hiccup or whatever and your action times out. With two all in protections left, it will use one, and treat your action as an "all in" situation for just what you have put into the pot. You will not be able to bet any futher, and it will create a side pot for the remaining two players. It allows you to still play for your portion of the pot. After your protections are gone, further time outs are treated under the conventional rules of being a check/fold situation.

Sonny,

My understanding of all in protection is that in a case where you are disconnected the software protects your hand. Instead of folding to the next bet you hand is played as if you where all in (even though no additional moneys are put into the pot from your stack), and stays live until the river giving you a chance to win the hand. If other players are in the hand then a side pot is created for them.

In theory this is a good thing but i have seen it abused so often that I prefer not to have this protection. Players who want to see the river with out putting more money in the pot can disconnect on purpose and have a chance to win the pot. So i see it as a bad thing. Of course I have a really good connection and never use the protection anyway.

hopes this helps,

jadie

I've seen this done on stars and AP and had it done to me on both sites also......I'm like you jadie I have a very good connection and have never needed to use it......however those who use it deliberatly in order to wince out of a pot but still reep any benifits have to be the most guttless of poker players IMHO.

Yeh it is open to abuse and I've seen it done also. For instance a player may make the river with some sort of small hand. He may think he's ahead at that point but my face a bet on the river that he cant call ie He's either behind or he's facing a bluff - either way he knows he cant call. So he disconnects and he stays in the hand, without having to risk further money. I think it's blatant cheating but the facility is there on some sites.

Somewhere in the maze of junk eldest son insists we need, something causes me regular link problems, so I find it essential.

What I really don't understand is this, most sites, but not all, don't allow this for tourneys. Why? Are tournament players merely the scum of the earth who can't be trusted and ring players absolute saints or something? If that is what is thought then I for one am insulted. And if it is such an issue, how come some sites I've played at have allowed it for tourneys? Don't ask me where as it was a long time ago.

Update, just remembered one, Everest, at least that was true last year.
