since yesterday i havent been calling with Ace with a low kicker (unsuited of course).
I used to occasionally call these hoping to catch the kicker as well but over the course of time i think these hands will lose you a helluva lot more than theyll win.
I know this is not a lot of hands to compare, but here are my stats from PT.
Total hands 1,257 .50/1 Limit
131 hands with Ax off
A2 - A6 - 48 hands - All losers
The only real winner has been AKo, Even ATo has lost for me alot.
no that helps a lot actually as that is the limit im playing at party just now
AK is a huge hand and usually wins you a lot more in the long run than it loses you
when i go in with something like id prefer there to be a straight opportunity

haven't got my PT stats to hand but I nearly never play Ax lower than 8. Even if it's suited I will fold a lot of the time depending on position. If I'm in the SB or BB and there's a raise I will call with Axs but Axo will never get played by me.
I won't play 7-2o because it has no straight potential. I won't play anything less than A-9o because of the weak kicker AND has no straight potential much like 7-2o.
I'd rather have the 7-2o because I won't be tempted to throw money at it.

Agree with this?
I sure do agree with you I have been beaten by this many time befor I got the message.
I played in a freeroll tournament last night and I stuck around for two hours befor I was out drawn with a full house Aes full of Queens I had Queens full of Aes and called his bet and went all in. I felt a rush loosing this bet, am I sick?
when I started playing I told myself I would play against the scomputor and free games for six month before playing for real money I am glad I am doing it this way, I has saved me a bundle of money I have instead spent the money about $1500,00 dollars on books and computer programs that have tought me the fundamentals of the game, at least I know the starting hands to play and what position I am in. April Ist (fools day) will be six months, and I plan of funding a betting account and start playing for real. I hope all the practice will payoff.
the problem with play money is that its way too loose - people dont care what they do as they can refill their account at any time. Ive also read that it can harm your game in the short run - ie. when you first start playing for real money, you play looser than you should because thats what your used to.
instead of playing at play money tables (which are too loose) id reccomend playing the 1 cent tables and then move up once you are making a profit.
