Default High Pockets

I was just in an $88 satelite last night for a WSOP qualifier tourney. I was dealt 1010 on the small blind, and first to act calls, two more callers after him, and I raise 4x BB.

I first to act calls and 1 more caller after that.

So on the flop we have 3 people in the hand, me and two limpers. Flop comes 2 5 8 with two spades. I bet 8x BB to draw away and flush chasers, next to act raises 8x BB, and the other guy folds.

I'm sitting with a higher pair than the board, thinking if he has me then he will reraise. I reraise over top of him 10xBB, he goes all in. I'm know i'm beat at this point, but i wanted to make sure he had pockets and hit trips, so (i was drunk mind you) i called.

He flipped over pocket Ks. I was so pissed just because of the fact that if i didnt raise preflop, there would be 5 people in the hand. With pocket kings, you dont want that. That is just begging for you to over play your kings and get sucked out on postflop.

He had no idea what I had or anyone else. I could have hit trips and he would have no way of knowing, because he didn't raise preflop to figure out what the hell I had. Play like that is very annoying to me. I could have dodged it but i really didn't feel like building my stack back up after that much was in the pot.

In general, if you don't know what your opponent has and you plan on being in the hand, you raise to get an idea, check if you are on a draw to a winner, or fold because you are in the dark and you can't make a good play.
