A Lesson I Learned on Patience! Last night I was playing a tournament. I had about an average chips stack, and was playing fairly tight. I hadnt seen any good cards for over an hour. In fact, I dont think Id even seen a flop in that long.
I was getting slightly frustrated about this. So when I picked up an Ace rag (A9s), I decided what the hell, lets see a flop. No one had raised, so it was a cheap price to see a flop. Then I hit an A on the flop. One player bets and the rest fold. Then the fact that I havent seen any cards and have finallly hit something on the flop starts taking over. I end up calling this guy down to the river and losing to a better kicker (which is exactly what I put him on, but played anyway.....d'oh). I knew I wasnt going to win this hand, but I was so tired of not plalying anything I took a big risk on the chance that I might win it. This puts me as somewhat of a short stack.
Then, the very next hand I get is AA. And guess what, I get some action from the same guy who just took half my chips, and he ends up doubling me back up to about where I was the hand before.
Now, if I would have waited one more hand and gotten that kind of action and doubled up I would have had a fairly healthy chip stack and been in contention to make the money. But, at least this hand really reminded me what I thought I already knew. BE PATIENT, the next hand could change the tournament for you, so dont risk chips on one thats probably gonna make it worse. |
