I am not a pro, I am not even that great. But the simplest thing I did to improve my game was have patience. I really enjoy playing in MTTs, but I found that I was nearly always getting knocked out in the early rounds. Noobs will do anything, and are unpredicatable, you just have to deal with it, wait till you get cards, and then knock them out.
Its like Boxing. You can't go all out in the early rounds, you are going to wear out and get beat. But if you can just last and survive those first brutal rounds, then you can come out swinging and take advantage of the situation.
Ive copied down my chip stacks along with a little bit of info after each blind increase in the 2 MTTs i played in yesterday. I finished 8th in the first, and 34th in the second. These are 2000 entrant freerolls on Absolute Poker.
I was still in both of these tourneys when I got knocked out. I never paniced and for most of the time I was below the average chip stack, sometimes a good deal below.
You just have to play your game, and have patience. That opening hour should only be playing primo hands, you shuold either be protecting a big stack, managing an average stack, or trying to add to a small stack. Either way, aggressive play does NOT work well and with consistency until about 2 and a half hours in. Thats when most of the noobs are gone and you can play with other decent players you understand bluffs and the finer points of poker.
Hope this helps someone...Anyway find me on Absolute Poker in the MTTs, my name is A GREY STONE
