Default Patience is the ONLY virtue

I am not a pro, I am not even that great. But the simplest thing I did to improve my game was have patience. I really enjoy playing in MTTs, but I found that I was nearly always getting knocked out in the early rounds. Noobs will do anything, and are unpredicatable, you just have to deal with it, wait till you get cards, and then knock them out.

Its like Boxing. You can't go all out in the early rounds, you are going to wear out and get beat. But if you can just last and survive those first brutal rounds, then you can come out swinging and take advantage of the situation.

Ive copied down my chip stacks along with a little bit of info after each blind increase in the 2 MTTs i played in yesterday. I finished 8th in the first, and 34th in the second. These are 2000 entrant freerolls on Absolute Poker.

I was still in both of these tourneys when I got knocked out. I never paniced and for most of the time I was below the average chip stack, sometimes a good deal below.

You just have to play your game, and have patience. That opening hour should only be playing primo hands, you shuold either be protecting a big stack, managing an average stack, or trying to add to a small stack. Either way, aggressive play does NOT work well and with consistency until about 2 and a half hours in. Thats when most of the noobs are gone and you can play with other decent players you understand bluffs and the finer points of poker.

Hope this helps someone...Anyway find me on Absolute Poker in the MTTs, my name is A GREY STONE

I'm impressed Jovolla, that is an excellent way to evaluate your play...and of course agree wholeheartly on the patience end of it. I can see that you are going to be someone not to reckon with.

Patience works again. I can not count the number of times I took bad beats in this tourney, though. I had my pocket As beat by pocket Qs, the guy busted 3 hands later anyway, morons. I was busted by pocket 9s. I had KK. He caught a 9 on the river, All in pre-flop.

A very good theory of play for MTTs. It also works well for SNGs. The important thing is remember to be patient. As more people get knocked out you will be able to lower your starting hand requirements. Avoid doing this pre-bubble though or you might find yourself out on the bubble.

I often find myself not playing a single hand in an SNG untill there are a few people out or the blinds start getting high. Not to say I won't play premium hands, but that is all I will play untill the number of players gets down. Once the bubble bursts and your ITM then loosen your starting hand requirements and shoot for the win. Don't loosen them too much or your going to finish low ITM.

If you find youself having trouble being patient then here is a nifty solution. Set and study the betting patterns and other players. See if you can put the other players on hands based on the betting they are doing. Don't be surprised if you start doing this even when your in a hand. It is something that can help pay you off in the long run.

Avoid checking your e-mail, chatting with friends on instant messenger programs and surfing the internet. You might be missing some important information that could help you later in the tournament.
