THE CRAPSHOOT BIBLES ARE BACK #4 OK BIBLES #4 is back to the game…As explained in #3 that floor trading takes a peculiar type of individual to be a successful trader…floor trading is not for everyone…just as playing a mind game is not for everyone, there are a lot more pressures involved and it can be a much more volatile game than playing a fundamental game. Also knowing how to play a game and playing it the way that you know it is two different things…you saw where Cheryl was an excellent technician, but when it came to trading for herself she succumbed to the pressure of actually trading using her own charts and graphs that made millions for her customers…..the same is true in NLHE, you need to be able to play the game that you know. You also saw a greed factor in #3 where the Hunt brothers tried to corner the market in silver by buying it all up, they were the cause of the price skyrocketing, but they didn’t sell out…Lee Stern did at a $11 million profit…the same can be said for NLHE…you have the best hand at the moment, instead of taking the hand down right then, you make a value bet for the sake of greed and your opponent hits and instead of you taking down the pot, your opponent takes you down.
Whether you play a mind game or a fundamental game depends on what your disposition is like and what you are comfortable with. As I explained in #3, there are basically 2 types of stock and commodity traders, there are fundamentalist and there are technicians…a good technician might make a horrible fundamentalist and visa versa…so pick your style to that which suites you….not everyone can be all things.
Playing a mind game takes much more practice than what a fundamental game takes. There are certain plays that you make in a fundamental game depending on the situation. In a mind game you might have the same options but you also then have the mind option where you are trying to outsmart your opponent.
Just chose the style that you are going to play wisely and PRACTISE, PRACTISE, PRACTISE.
I have been talking like timing is the most important aspect of the game….there is really something more important than timing and that is focus, focus, focus, if your not in focus with the game, if your not in focus with the hand and if you are not in focus of what you know then you are nowhere. By being in focus, I mean really, really in focus and it is very difficult to do, you cannot let emotions or whims take over. Focus might just seem like paying attention to you, but it is much more than that…it is your brain constantly evaluating the situation, your opponent and constantly running over in your mind what you know about the game as well as your opponent.
One of my biggest problems is playing to many games in a row…that makes it extremely difficult to stay in focus, it makes me more impatient and it subjects me more to whims…this is probably the biggest reason that I just lose control in a game.
More to come on BIBLES #5
