THE CRAPSHOOT BIBLES ARE BACK #3 In CRAPSHOOT BIBLES #3 I am going to get away from the game for a little while and discuss a little more about my life which might describe a little of why I feel like I do about NLHE.
As some members already know, I lived in Chicago for over 30 years and was a very successful businessman, I owned my own fast paced company dealing in raw material plastics and metal, selling mainly to the automotive industry and its suppliers, my customers and suppliers were spread all over the United States and even some from foreign lands, but most were in Michigan since that is where the bulk of the automotive plants were…I sold my products in truckload quantities only, so it was big business. I had my own office in the John Hancock building on Chicago’s miracle mile, Michigan Avenue. and lived in a 57 story high rise building some 3 or 4 blocks away in an area known as the Gold Coast. My friends were some of Chicago’s most influential people and I frequented and entertained at the best high class restaurants and was well known by the owners, frequent customers and employees, I joined 6 nightclubs for over $600 each and for that I only got the plessure of paying high prices for my drinks or dinners, but knew that every other member also payed that fee (by todays money, it would be more equal to $1,800.00 each), one such club that I joined was owned by Barbara Eden of "I dream of Jennie" and her partner was an executive for the MGM in Las Vegas. By many I was referred to as Senator, or Governor in a friendly manner and many had said that I was a legend because of my life style. I was also somewhat of a playboy and liked fast and classy cars which included 12 cylinder Jaguars (when 6 or 8 cylinders were popular), Mercedes Benz, Corvettes etc. I was unaware that most of the restaurants that I frequented had parking lots, because the doorman would always park my automobile right in front by the restaurant door so that it would be visible to their patrons, which pleased my dates since we didn’t have to wait for the car to be brought up and I also assume, they also liked the show. As an extravagant entertainer, my business was sought after by the restaurateur and their staff and they did whatever they could to please me. I also was a heavy tipper, sometimes leaving $100 tip for a $3.50 drink (which in today’s money would be more like a $200 or $300 tip)…my way of saying remember me when I come back with my customers and dates. I also entertained by flying my customers to Las Vegas or Mexico and entertained them there…at times I would charter a 60 foot sailboat in the Caribbean and entertain my customers by Island hopping for a week scuba diving and partying….I lived a life that many dreamed about, knew Hollywood movie stars and Chicago athletes and club owners, I had an evening of drinks at a private table with Elke Summers at one of Chicago finest restaurants. I did a lot and knew a lot, I was not a green pea.
I met a classy beautiful girl named Cheryl and dated her on occasion, a date would be made if I ran across her at one of the restaurants that I frequented…dates with me were seldom preplanned, they were more spontaneous dates, set when I ran into someone that I knew or met, anyway Cheryl was a very intelligent girl besides being a looker, she had here own company as a technician (Trading stocks or commodities has two basic types of traders they are either fundamentalist or technical traders) in the Chicago Board of Trade Futures and would sell her knowledge to the top brokerage firms, so she had to be pretty good at her job since they would buy the information from her. I took Cheryl to dinner at Chicago’s Pump Room to celebrate her purchase of a seat on the Chicago Board of Trade, I don’t remember, but I am thinking that the seat cost at the time was $60,000.00, Cheryl figured that since she was making so much money for her customers, why not buy a seat for herself and make her own millions. Over the course of time I was saddened to find that things were not going well for Cheryl and finally one day she told me that she gave up her seat…that this world is a mans world, she said she could not handle the pressures of instant trading, which caused her to make bad decisions….she was a good analyst, not a good trader. For those that don’t know the CBOT is a very fast paced hectic business, I was friends with many traders that had their own seats, millions can be won or lost rapidly…I know one individual that turned a few thousand dollars into 11 million dollars…that person is Lee Stern who then purchased the professional Chicago Sting Soccer team as well as starting his own brokerage firm Lee's apartment covered an entire floor of the "Water Tower Place" on michigan Avenue….Lee was buying silver when the Hunt brothers tried to corner the market on silver…when the silver market went bust so did the Hunt brothers, but Lee sold out before the market busted and profited $11 million dollars. Owning a seat on the market, whether it is stocks or commodities is important, because you then can become a “day trader”…meaning fast paced, you never hold a position for a day, when the closing bell rings, you are already out of the market…most trades are done in minutes or seconds and you need a very good stamina to be successful in this type of trading, players that hold there position after the closing bell are referred to as "speculators"
Wow, I got carried away here, more to come on CRAPSHOOT BIBLES #4, now I know that some are going to be skeptical on what I wrote about my life, it is not an Elvis story and you can believe it or not, but it is true.
