The CRAPSHOOT BIBLES ARE BACK #2 Again I stress, if you don’t know the fundamentals of the game like the back of your hand then learn them first before taking any of this to heart.
I will continue on in The CRAPSHOOT BIBLES ARE BACK #2 thread with my analogy to American Football. As I said in #1 timing is the most important aspect of the game whether it is football or NLHE. A play is just a play…it might work and again it might not, but a well timed play has a much greater degree of success....a good play might be a very succesful play, but played at the wrong time, it will be a total bomb. Your play can come off like you’re a full blown idiot when it doesn’t work, but it is much different then when the idiot does it because he doesn’t know better, you did it for a reason and it failed, just as a NFL football team can look like a sandlot team when they try their 4th down fake punt and it fails…give them credit, it was the unexpected and it failed, but it was still a good play.
NFL teams prepare for battle against their next opponent all week long, they review films of their opponents play as well as their own and they make a play list for next weeks game. Part of the team takes on play as if they were the opponent and they practice and practice on how to oppose the opponents play. As I said in another post the “freeroll” is a good place for you to develop and change strategy…it cost you nothing and winning is not important, but the lessons learned on your new play strategy might be priceless. A NFL team develops a playlist for their opponent…your opponents are many more than one, so your playlist had to be much longer and much more flexible….you must be able to attack from any angle and defend when they have you encircled….so how much do you practice for your opponent…probably never!...and don’t say you do it by playing lower limit games…you are still paying to enter those games, so winning no matter how slight your desire to win is…it is still there.
OK enough analogies for now…Oh in case I forgot to tell you…the most important aspect of the game is TIMING.
NLHE IS ABOUT EVERYTHING EXCEPT THE CARDS….forget about, it’s not right to play this hand or that hand or it is not according to the book to raise with those cards…if it results in a win…every play is correct…now don’t take that literally otherwise you are just like the full blown idiots….there has to be reasons for that play with a good chance of success……not an average chance, or a maybe it will work.…a good chance….ask yourself, where am I positioned, what is my stack size in comparison to my opponents, what is my opponents play like, just how well do I think I know my opponent…has he been faced with similar play in the game, how did he re-act and most importantly, what does he think of me and how strong does he think I am….if you can answer those questions with confidence and feel that the answers are favorable and correct, it might be time for that play, no matter what cards you hold….but if you aren’t confident with your answers then you just might wait for a better opportunity. As you might be able to see, to answer those questions with confidence takes a high degree of paying attention to what is going on in the game…that is why I can’t understand someone playing in two tournaments at the same time – just how much do you really know what is going on in both games.
NLHE IS A MIND GAME NOT A FUNDAMENTAL GAME….just how deep can I get into my opponents mind…does he have them or not…what does he think I have….am I better off challenging him with a re-raise – will he laydown, will I have to come back with a higher re-raise on the next card to make him fold…should I send out a feeler bet…or should I fold altogether, I don’t want to make this a raising dual. – you see your cards aren’t important, his cards are what is important….pot odds aren’t important, can I win is important.
Enough for now…CRAPSHOOT BIBLES ARE BACK #3 to come.
