Default Purpose of the kill?

Out of curiosity what is the strategical purpose of the KILL? Why was it implemented and what is the actual purpose of having it (specifically if it should also be implemented into our live game).

Can you explain "the KILL", in my limited poker experience, im not sure what your talking about..........maybe eliminating a player from a tournament, taking all a players money, etc.................. Could you explain this a little more?

Killers usually have to post a raise before the cards are dealt after scopping a pot in omaha/stud or winning twice in a row in hold'em. If the game is $3/$6 the killer will post a $6 bet before the cards are dealt. The killer is the last to act in the first round of betting. Rules differ between casinos.

As a new player, it was explained to me during hold 'em lessons at one of our local casinos that the "kill" pot is intended to create more action. In theory, the increased size of the starting pot (which in $3/$6 would be $1+$3+6--small blind, big blind and the "kill") will entice more players to stay in, thus offering a better chance for the "kill" player to not win his/her 3rd pot in a row. In addition (depending on the casino, I suppose), it doubles the bets for that hand. In other words, the table acts as a $6/$12 table for THAT HAND ONLY. In my limited experience, it seems to make little difference. For most low limit players, it seems to scare away as many people as it attracts.

Anyone heard another explanation?

That is what I knew of also but from my experience the KILL creates less action.

Wow, a new term, of course i really don't play that much Omaha so i can understand why i've never heard of this before, I'm still not sure that I fully understand what this is and has it ever been used in other games?

i have played 2/4 and 3/6 tables with kill and it doesnt matter much. the guys winning are going to play the higher stakes. the tight player isnt going to play unless he has a hand.

one nite i sat and played where EVERY hand was capped every round for over an hour. won over $500 in a 2/4 game in little less than 3 hours. those nite come along once in a blue moon though. that was a strange nite.
