Its not much of a trick but something I noticed alot of players doing...... Lets say you are the BB and the board gets folded to the button who lays out a small raise. Now you are pretty sure this is a bluff to steal your blind. After the SB folds you surprise the raiser with a call. No matter what the flop comes you lay out a small bet. If he was trying to steal he will fold. He will fold for 2 reasons. #1 he may think you had something preflop and that is why you called. The bet on the flop makes him go away. #2 If he was stealing in the first place he probably didnt have much and probably doesnt want it to go the river where his 2 cards might get shown at the end.

I don't suggest to do this all the time, but its good for once or twice a game.

A trick i like if u can call it a trick, while in the small blind and every one folds to u. raise the big blind 3x even w/ a weak hand try to steal that bb it works often but don't go crazy w/ it and don't try it agianst aggresive or sloppy players.

Thats actually not a bad comment. Patience is HUGE for poker. It sets up your steals when you need them and it will also give you more ammo for when you get some good cards.

The bigger your stack is, the less prone you are to be bullied. It's almost a given that big stack vs little stack, big stack will win most of the time because he has the power to push the little stack out with anything.

Big stacks give a little respect to the stacks that can put a dent in them so you have more cards to squeeze out before folding.

Good... good... lot's of pre-flop suggestions.

Anything for post-flop, turn, river?

If you find someone betting low at what might be a mid pair, or top with a low kicker, but you have some outs to stay with it, then if a 3 flush or obvious 3 straight hits the river and he checks it, indicating that he is afraid of it- bet at it strongly enough to make it matter. Often, if that fear read was correct, he will fold. I use this one often.

Tvaal i just want to say that i think your theory is crap.
Dont care about pot odds? so if it costs you 100 in 10,000 dollar pot, you wont call no matter what you have? sure you are probably beat, but youd have to be beat everytime in 1,000 hands, so you think ur king high is no good but he might have missed his draw and you would feel foolish. Pot odds are pratically the reason i call, but youd have to understand them fully to know what they are... i think im going to go into a indepth post so everyone can fully understand what pot odds are

I agree with Ship.

tournament situation here.

You're in the BB, it's 600, with a 50 ante. Short stack who has 890 in chips moves all in, and it folds around to you. If this is a full table, then that means that there is 50 x 9 = 450, plus SB (300) plus 600 plus 890. That means there is 2240 in the pot, and you have to pay another 290 to call. You have 76 off suit. There is no possible way you fold this. Yeah, you're probably beat, but if you have 10% of winning the hand it is correct to call! You must.

Here's one I learned from Harrington. And if you are a very tight player, it works fantastic. Time it right though. When you have some chips to play with. Called the squeeze play...

You are third to act. UTG who plays loose puts in a raise of 2-3 times BB. 2nd to act cold calls. You make a raise of triple the original raise. Here's the theory.

UTG (who plays loose ideally) is playing marginal cards, but wont go up against a monster. 2nd to act has a decent hand, but not enough to raise a big raise, so probably not enough to call a big raise representing a real hand.

Works best if you are tight, have a good sized stack (but not too big or you will be pegged for stealing), and have a tight image. Harrington did it at the WSOP final table last year with 6 4o. It's fun to try, but be ready to let go of it if you get pushed back. Especially with 64o lol.

Bob

And a little advice... if you try to make a move at the blinds and they represent a strong hand, be ready to let go of it. Nothing in the rules says that the blinds aren't allowed to get good hands ;-)
