Arrow Takes money to make money...

Does the old saying that it takes money to make money hold true? I say that it does if you are a decent poker player. I was disgusted by some of the beats I endured in a couple of my sngs, so I decided to move up...

I began my night by entering a $5.00+.50 9 person sit and go to which I lost by my own fault on a bad read on my opponent. The hand: I held and i raised bb in position by 2x got one caller. flop came I made a small raise and got just called turn check ..small raise from opponent, i call. River I raise, he reraises all in and i call. he flips over ...i lose my straight to a full house (totally didnt expect that lol)

I then entered a turbo NL $6.00+.50 and took a healthy second verse some fairly loose players

Entered another $6.00+.50 tourney and lost trip 7s after the flop to an all in runner runner flush (the guy had only flopped a pair of eights)

Disappointed I entered another $6.00+.50 tourney. look at this hand.... I held , the guy raised BB by 4x (blinds were still small so i called as small blind with one other caller who got out after flop) Flop: ...I raise about 1/10th of my stack and he reraises all in ...I immediatly call thinking he had AA or KK based on preflop reraise...he flips over Turn: River: i lose to a straight lol

Sick of losing to bad calls and getting my tush kicked around by loose play i decided to move up to a $12 6 handed holdem tourney in hopes of better play. here's the outcome:

PokerStars Tournament #13157463, No Limit Hold'em
Buy-In: $12.00/$1.00
6 players
Total Prize Pool: $72.00
Tournament started - 2005/09/29 - 03:24:38 (ET)
Tournament finished - 2005/09/29 - 04:20:20 (ET)
1: yappyguy55 (Littleton), $46.80 (65%)
2: Inspir3d (PROTILT-Calgary), $25.20 (35%)
3: MattDraw (Denver),
4: momoney72 (jefferson city),
5: chris0118 (st-laurent),
6: Muckets (Jacksonville),

You finished in 1st place (eliminated at hand #2686274671).

95 hands played and saw flop:
- 6 times out of 25 while in small blind (24%)
- 9 times out of 24 while in big blind (37%)
- 6 times out of 46 in other positions (13%)
- a total of 21 times out of 95 (22%)

Pots won at showdown - 6 out of 8 (75%)
Pots won without showdown - 13

The people i had played with played great, good competition, and I ended up taking first. I am off to play more and hope that the larger stakes have people playing better. So far though I agree that it takes money to make money as higher stakes create better play and better players get paid. Thanks for reading. Hope my theory holds solid.

Yappy.

Congratulations! Don't expect solid players at every tournament at that limit though. You'll find a good amount of real idiots even in the $12 tournies.

Wrong move there if you ask me. You were going on tilt. I suggest when you lose two or three in a row take a break, get coffee, light a cig, watch tv, chat, then play. By then you will be relax. Good that you won but if you ask me you were going on tilt slowly.

i will argree you were probally tilting but there are a ton of bad beats at the small buy-in games. ive found i have less bad beats as the buy in or limits gets higher. you can never fully escape them though

playing to many in a row and tilting means u need to slack up. playing 10 spread out over a couple of days at higher limits will give u a better out come. there more exper. u get u can move up in tourneys or amount u play its all a process
