Default Anyone got any LIMIT advice

I know this is BackAsswards but I started out a NL player and have never really played Limit before. I started playing a little fixed limit today because I needed a little break from NL because I have been playing bad out of boredom ( I think) but I will save that sob story for another time. Of course, I could just pick up SS and read the limit section but I dont really feel like it now. Do any of you have any pointers? I know not to bluff much. Do you guys play hands like 89 suited in limit? I know I play them in NL but not sure if it is smart to play them in limit. Another thing, I have been waiting to the turn to check raise or re-raise since those are the bigger bets. Is that smart? I know pot odds are alot more important too. Is it smart to semi-bluff on a flush or OE str8 draw? any comments would help.

youll have to stop bluffing as much in limit
pot odds come more into play in my opinion as the betting is structured
i would play 89 suited in limit - but id be prepated to drop it if i didnt hit it.

In SS2 Jennifer Harman says that you shouldn't really slow play, play your hands at full speed. Are you talking about low limits? if so then i would hardly play any hands at all, but when you find a hand do non-stop raising.

Read the limit section in SS (and SS2 if you have it). It will give you a great starting base. In general just play a lot more straightforward. Make the most obvious play most of the time. When you do get a good hand though you have to bet and raise extremely aggresively. When the betting is fixed you can't wait for the river to take your opponents stack, you have to raise early and often.

All of my live play experience is limit play. I used to be a prop player at the Reno Hilton. One big mistake is see no limit players make in limit is that they tend to see too many flops and play too many bad cards. This doesn't hurt you as much in no limit, because you can often make back what you spent seeing many cheap flops in one good pot. Limit is entirely different. There is only so much you can bet when you do catch a hand that you can't make it back unless you get on a rush. You want to have your rushes turn into profit, not just trying to catch up.

Position is also very important as it is in no limit, but in limit there are very few hands to see a flop with in early position, namely AA, KK, AK, AQ, and QQ.

In middle position the list gets a bit longer, all of the above plus JJ, 10-10, 9-9, 8-8, AJ, A 10, A 9, KQ, KJ, QJ, Q 10, J 10, and K 10.

Late position or button brings in hands like Ax suited, 7-7, 6-6, 5-5, 4-4, 3-3, 2-2, and mid connectors.

If you use these starting requirments, you will find that you are bleeding less and winning more. Hope this helps

Thanks for the advice all. I played last night and was real tight and made a nice little profit of 43$ on my starting 25$ in .50/$1 limit. I think I will stick with Limit for a little while so I can control my tilt, lol. I find it is alot more mechanical play and quite frankly, alot easier. I also dont shoot myself in the foot by bluffing off half my chips. If anyone else has any pointers, feel free.

Doyle Brunson mentions in SS that Limit is a much more mechanical game than NL. You basically have to play good hands strongs. And will most of the time have to show those hands at the river. So play strong hands. Don't try to be too fancy. And play be the book.

As they say Franky, in limit you play your cards...in nl you play your opponents cards!
