Default total Bank Pre-flop All-ins are UNFAIR!

Any two pocket cards can be beat...there are no guarantees...now if you push your chips in the middle and lose...you are kapoot, finished, you lose the hand and are out of the tournament, on the rail, out of the casino. Now if you win...you win the pot, that is all...you don't go to the cashier and collect the tournament money...all that happens is that you get the chips in the center and are allowed to continue on in the game...it does not skyrocket you to a win...it just allows you to continue on.

To me when you put all your chips in the center, you are making a very risky move no matter what cards you are holding and your rewards do not outweigh your risk instead you risk outweigh your reward by far...so that is why I say that it is unfair.

The next time that you are thinking about pushing all your chips into the center, you might think of this post and weigh your benifits.

That is simply part of the game, actually a huge part of the game. Especially at the end of tourneys. It may not seem fair, but neither does getting beat on the river. It is a paramount part of the game that must be occasionally done if one intends to do well.

I agree with your premise in a ring game, but not a tourney. It is almost an absolute part of tourney play. I assume you prefer ring games to tourney play, given your preflop all-in opinions. Nothing wrong with that. To each his own.

I play mainly tourney's jake...I am simply trying to express the risk/reward factors to those that take total bank all-ins so lightly!

I'm very hesitant to go all-in unless I have a "made" hand, i.e. high pp, aa, kk, occasionally qq. I hate going in without a hand, i.e. AK......however sometimes it is necessary.

but it is much better to do it with a taller bank than your opponents...that is the main thing that I am trying to point out.

You can't win the tournament in the first hand, but you can sure lose it.

I've had QQ and folded to an all-in preflop. I've had AK and folded preflop. Those hands mean nothing to me until i see more of the next 5 out of 7 cards come out.

At a full table, i'm not going to let my game ride on luck. Solid play will get me much farther. Only people with weak games rely on all-ins preflop. Because, put simply, most hands there are two people who have great hands preflop. Therefore they will let it ride because it's their 'grand opportunity' to jump thier way to large chipstacks.

You are better off having a great read on somebody on the turn, and when they go all-in you know you have them with your made hand and earn thier chips off merit.

Thier are 5 year players who think thier hot stuff because they have been playing soooo long And they critisize my play for folding preflop all the time, it's happened in this forums games, it's happened in live games. I'm labeled as a very tight player. But I somehow get a steady chipstack that just about matches the average stack throughout a tourney. I hardly ever go all in preflop unless i'm short stacked and out of time. You just don't need to risk it when you can play and get a steady income over the course of a tourney.

Cowboy, you said it all...I am finding myself getting on much further in tournaments by folding good hands that I would have called before...I am tighter on pre-flop all-ins than many but am still way to loose...it is an area that I really need to tighten up on and lastly...you are right, I think that the turn is the key, it is where your best strategy needs to be played.

But you are so right...you need to see the 71% percent of your hand and the 43% or your opponents hand at least not just your pockets to know wether you even have a playable hand...yet alone a good hand!

I'm doing that now, folding good hands early that I would normally call. I have been going a lot further in freerolls lately. Thanks for the topic to bring me back down to playing right!
