Default Table Selection, Table Image and Maniacs

I wanted to talk about 3 issues that are seperate from each other but are related enough that I will just put them in one thread.

Table Image: I have to admit, I was one of the folk who used to say that, at least online, this did not matter much. I thought that players were too occupied with other things like TV, multi tables etc, to notice my playing style ( and I still think this is true to some extent, but.....) I may have to change my tune. Lately, I have trying a new tactic, lets call it the Doyle approach, since I was inspired by a line in SS, in that I will enter the .10/.25 tables with 10$ and play like a maniac. I will raise anything with paint. I will bluff and show, etc.....then, If I get lucky and double up, fine, I just got the whole table on tilt and they all want to take me out. This equals alot of action when I actually get a good hand. And it I bust out, which happens most of the time, I will get alot of action for the rest of the game and the second time I will re-buy with $25 and I will tighten up considerably, but still show a bluff or 2 to keep up that maniac image. Now, I have to say, this strategy makes my variance go through the roof because if I take a few beats after I tighten up it really hurts but eventually, it always seems that I will go on a run and get paid off most of the time....last night for example, I started out with my BR at about 130$ ( from 25 deposit last week) and it went all the way down to about 75$ before I made a HUGE run over a 3 hour period that brought be back to about 155$ when I finally went to bed. The other risk is that there is alot of tunover at the table and people leave before you can win your money back...that is HUGE variance for 25 cent tables. Does anyone else do this?

Table selection: I used to only pick tables with low avg pots, and alot of players seeing flops ( around 60%). This would allow me to pick up alot of pots but they tended to be small pots, and I would not get alot of action when I had a big hands because most of the players were real tight....This is an okay strategy for some, but I have found out recently, do the the new tactics I use (above) I like the tables with larger avg pots so that I get paid when I hit....the theory is that since I play low limits, it makes not sense to grind it out, you have to be willing to get in there and mix it up if you want to make any real money. I think that I can do this because I honestly feel that I am better than most of the folks that I encounter at those limits...maybe not, but that is how I feel.

Maniacs: This is more of a comment than anything but I dont seem to be seeing as many true maniacs lately. ( funny since I basically said up above that I try and be a maniac for the first 10$) I mean, maybe it is because I dont play SNG's that much these days or maybe the play is getting better but I really havent seen that many 'true' maniacs. I mean, you still have the overly loose players, which I like, but not that all in with 94o type of maniacs......weird.
