Default Being Born lucky or not

Do you think that some people are just born lucky or unlucky? I mean people who no matter what they do hardly ever mess up , or if they are unlucky always mess up. Or do you think their is no such thing as a lucky /unlucky person?

Question

I think most ppl would agree that believing in luck is basically like believing in an unknown outside force acting upon your circumstance. (For instance, if someone wins the lottery, some will think that that person was 'meant' or 'destined' to win it, and the outside force would have won it for them no matter what numbers they had.) So, the question then becomes, IS there an outside force acting upon our circumstances???

A very tricky question...because to say definitively one way or the other, is to basically claim to have knowledge of the unknown, or proof of the unprovable. And noone can say for sure luck does or doesn't exist, without claiming that they are basically 'all-knowing'. It's similar in nature to questions about faith and God. And since none of us have the physical proof or the ability to prove/disprove, all of us are left to BELIEVE one way or the other, whether or not these things exist.

So if you asked me if luck and lucky players exist, my best answer would probly be "I believe they do", even though I can't prove it. While other's will say "they do exist" or "they don't exist", even though they can't prove it either.

It's a belief thing, not a fact thing.

if you think about it, the cards have already been decided - they are waiting in the pack to be turned over, so its not really luck, as the cards are pre-determined. its the decision that counts, and you control that, so i dont think luck exists (in poker, anyway)

Of course luck exists! For example if the flop is A K 7 5, and your openent goes all in, you think he is bluffing , so you call with your pair of 7s, your openent shows pocket 2s. The river is a 2, and your beat. I would call this luck for the person with the 2s and bad luck with the person with the 7s. Poker has alot to do with luck, obviosly there is a lot of skill involved also. But luck plays a major part in poker.

exactly. the 2 is waiting there, and the choice is there for the player to call the all-in or not. there is risk, certainly, but no luck

Oh come on!

Luck is everywhere, and everyone is lucky! I mean the guy at the table who just got a runner runner hand - and i shall remind that 85% of poker hands are made on the river - may indeed have had no other luck.

The problem with human beings is we tend, on a regular basis to look inward, we assume. Dont know if any of you have ever seen this but here it is, its quite sad.

ASS-U-ME

Basically means, if you assume you make an ASS out of U and ME.

No you are not the most unlucky guy on the planet, you dont always lose, you just remember those times more than you do the beats, and we get beat you tend to think that the other guy who won just wins wins wins all the time, and you look inward upon yourself thinking you always never but lose, but the truth is you have only played with this guy for a very short period of time.

No one is like that BMW advert a while back "Lucky Star" where even the bloody traffic lights change green for him just as he passes so he doesnt need to take the effort to put his foot on the break of his sports car. I wish...
