Default Would it be profitable to act like a maniac for 1 or 2 hands?

do you think this would work?

in a limit game (youd lose too much in NL) you go in about 1 or 2 hands at the start with nothing - an absolutely terrible hand (think of the 2 4 combo here).

After you call to the river and get beat by an obvious flush, straight, trips or whatever you publicly declare 'Damn it - i thought you were bluffing'

Now this sort of thing will get some laughs but it will definately stick in peoples minds. Now when you do get a top hand - youll get a lot of people calling you than you normally would.

You get the idea - if you keep up the chat they might still consider you a fish even after getting a few big pots

go on - have fun - its your poker game

i'd say at the limts we play it probably wouldn't be as effective, as perhaps it might be at higher levels. if you were playing against players who are thinking about the game and are not just fish then you could probably profit from them but at the end of the day a fish will take you to the river anyway so theres no need to decieve them. i'm just guessing at this though, i've never thought of trying it so i cant say, thats just what i think might happen.

it'd be a good experiment for you to carry out though fonz, could write a thread on the site saying whether it was worth it or not - i'm sure some of the responses after the "i thought you were bluffing" would be quite comical too.

I've actually done this on a couple of occasions but it was more because the game had tighened up so much it was silly. I played a few hands stupidly and raised and gave some fish some cash. It was soon livening up a bit and I got my money back.

Wouldn't do it that much though. Normally, I'd just change tables.

i know what you mean about changing tables

i sat down at a 0.50/1 table yesterday at party. Whilst waiting for the big blind i notived one guy in particular raising the maximum every single hand - the 2 hands i saw him go to the river he had 2nd or 3rd pair.

So i thought - yes, ill have some of this.
So i play tight only playing top pairs and ocassionally paying the extra raise if i was on the button and had a good hand. Ended up losing 10 bucks in about 20 minutes and had to leave - i just couldnt take him out. The one hand i thought i was gonna damage him he beat me with trips to beat my two pair - go figure. I think i made the right decision i think leaving the table - sure you want guys like that to bust but a mad run of cards can reallly hurt you

Fonz i think you play too much limit, get yourself into a no limit game then play like a maniac for the first ten hands, don't go too crazy and lose all of your chips, but maybe raise the whole way and show down some garbage, you will rock some people's worlds in the process, just watch how much action is created. You just gotta tighten up after that, and the next time you go crazy they will only remember your crazy holding earlier. ****not recommended in $50's or higher****

i sometimes see people do the "im stupid and dont know how to play routine" and it works sometimes but it can also backfire....the other day i was playing and this idiot comes in and calls a pre flop raise of 3 dollars with J/3o and ends up showing them at the end pretending he thought he had the other guy beat. Upon watching him for a few more hands you can obviousy tell if he is indeed a good poker player by the way he conducts himself at the table. so when i hit the nuts on the flop i played into his trap and ended up taking him down for a huge pot. Moral of the story: if you are going to play dumb at a table, make sure you actually do know what your doing and dont get caught in a bad situation...

i think it would work to an extent but im cheap and poor so i tend to not gamble a whole lot so i wouldnt be willing to take the risk of losing some cash. especially because i play mostly tourneys and i play really conservative and try to make it as fare a possible while waiting and picking my hands, but thats just me i have seen some pretty crazy people out there and it works for them SOMETIMES
