| | | | I don't like Ace rag,
but,
Ace 2,3,4,5/Ace rag suited
I might call the blinds(might make a small bet depending on position and any reads on other players etc..)
If its late in a tourney I may try and steal a couple of pots knowing I have an Ace as a back up if i get called. I believe someone always has the ACE so you just have to make sure you have the better kicker or catch second pair.
So I will play it depending on my chip stack, other peoples betting patterns and if i can see flop cheap.

| | | | I personally wouldnt play ace rag ever unless it was 3 or 4 handed and still i would try to raise and take the pot. Ace rag is so vulnerable to too many hands to play it and win with it consistently. The only other times you could play it is in the blinds but thats dangerous because it you flop top pair chances are someone else at the table could have also and then you are almost definitely going to lose the hand with your kicker unless you can hit 2 pair and they dont. Ace rag suited is a different story though. Especially A 2 suited you have the opportunity to make the nut flush or a wheel which will usually be enough to win the hand. I can play Ace rag suited in a tourney with 9 people at the table IF I'm in good position or in the blinds and there is no raise preflop. Any raise or under the gun and i'm mucking quickly. There's my take on this, I'd like to see what others think also. | |

| | | | I will play Ax suited from any position, but you need to be able to lay this down postflop if need be and that means even if you hit top pair. I will not cold call 2 bets with this hand if it is raised before me however. Ace Rag in the SB suited or not I will call but fold if it is raised before me and I will call a raise with it in the BB but will fold it if it is reraised before it gets to me in the BB. These are for full ring games and limit games. If it was NL it would depend on the amount of the raises naturally.
In shorthanded play, 6 people or less, Ace rag becomes a very decent hand and I will raise with it in LP and MP but limp in EP. Of course I play mainly full ring games on Poker Stars so my shorthanded experience is very limited.

| | | | I dont play ace rag unless its a short handed table, or if a short stack is all-in and I can afford to gamble and I am last to act and everyone else is out. Then I hope he doesnt have an A with a better kicker. But 99% of the time I fold A rag. | |

| | | | In a full handed limit ring game I never ever play ace-rag offsuit, not even if I'm getting a discount from the blinds. It's a brutal hand because if an ace flops, you just can't bet it aggresively with any confidence. Ace-rag suited is a hand I used to play religiously, however I think I've overvalued it in the past. I now look at it like I would a suited connector or a small pair. I only play it in late position, and in situations where I feel I'm getting really good implied odds (meaning I'll win a huge pot if I make the nut flush). | |

| | | | With ace rag I only play if I have to call the blind, Hoping to hit the ace and high cards. On tourneys I don't tho. | |

| | | | Agree with most comments, Ace rag is a limping or folding hand until later in game. Depends how im feeling tho/i may play it strongly occationaly.

| | | | It's not a fair question....it all depends on everything...your position, the type of game your in, your bank, what plays have been made so far, who is your opponent or opponents, if its a tournement..where are you at and how late or early is it in the tournament. There are just too many varabiles to give a general answer. | |

| | | | If I am in a late position with no raises, I might give a call with Ace rag, especially if they are suited. I think that these are very dangerous hands, because a lot of the times, when you hold an ace, so does another player (I'm not exatly sure who told me that, but it was someone here). If you hold ace rag and hit you ace, there is a good chance your kicker will be beat. Now it really determines what kind of game you are playing when to decide what hands to play. A lot of people play much looser at limit tables, in low stakes ring tables, and in the early stages of tournaments with low blind levels. Here, players tend to play ace rag much more often. A lot of times, I see people raising with hands like A3, which I find ridiculous, but it happens. | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
