i think for anyone starting to learn texas hold em, sticking to the basics or 'standards' is advisable. Once you get more games under your belt youll start to realise when people may be bluffing (to steal the blinds, to raise you out or whatever) or that certain players overraise. At this point youll be able to start mixing up your play depending on the type of players at your table

the general concensus on this is to play tight at a table of maniacs and play a bit looser or more agressive at a table of tight players
