I am not a good limit player Stroke...but, just remember you don't have the power to chase your opponents out, so you have to play it more straight. Play it tight just like you would in NL and don't waste chips with foolish bets or calls, you won't have the big pots in the beginning or middle stages to make up for your losses...in the end blinds get large and so bets are stronger then you are getting back to power simular to NL with your raises and re-raises.

Should i just play the game by the book? just play the good hands, no bluffing. only bet when i have a hand? and see how far that takes me? and rely on a good rin of cards to see me through?

Be aggersive and don't try to bluff in the beginning when the limits are low. Be sure too win the first pot you are in. Find a weak player and pick on him/her.

Raise or fold.

1) 1st hour only play strongish hands and adjust how you bet to tie in to betting tendancies of your opponents.

2) 1st hour make sure you have at very least pot odds before you chase. Try to develop reads of players to exploit at higher blind levels. Beware of advertising at this early stage as many players do it.

3) rarely ever bluff.

4) play tight passive initially and then after first 30min to hour tight aggressive.

5) Try to generally have it that you have probably the best hand seeing the flop or very strong reads on your opponents. You cannot play many chasing hands as even though the potential rewards are there too often you will find yourself just low on chips and in danger of exiting the tourney. That doesnt mean you should never play low pockets/ suited connectors etc but they become something to be generally avoided.

6) position is key to limit. Play much more selectively early and always raise if you are goin to play early. If you smell weakness in others then you can play hands that you wouldnt otherwise play eg qj against someone who overvalues aces on flops of 57J etc. Also generally fold hands like AJ to a solid player who raises.

7. Dont panic if you are short stacked and go all in on trash - people will often call you - trying to knock you out - wait till you get a hand and not something like A3 that will get dominated by someone who calls your raise.

8 Jennifer Harman's section in DB's Super system 2 is excellent

9 You should always play sub 35% and normally arround the 20% area or less so watch your stats and avoid playing trash.

10. Generally call 1 player betting on river - rarely get into raising battles on river unless you have actual nuts otherwise settle for 1 bet at most.

11 good luck

You play limit holdem like you play omaha, fold all crap hands, if you can get in the pot cheap do it, you need the nuts on the flop, or near enough to play, tightness is the key.

There are two things i've noticed in MTTs.

One is for NL hold em, the more people in, the harder it gets because your oppenents are constantly giving ammo to your other opponents and it really pushes a new luck factor. This is why i enjoy 50 man MTTs for NL. rather than 1000 man tourneys.

The other is limit hold em MTTs. If it is free entry or low buy ins, it is very difficult to do well in. People are very reckless and think that since there is a capped bet, they can't lose it all when in reality, they are shooting random bullets down the beach hoping to hit someone, then when they are face to face, the have no ammo left to defend themselves.

Limit holdem is a deffensive game, when you get position on your opponent, then you strike.
