Thanks. I'll at least check out the online "training." I was hoping more for some kind of local, hand-on clinic, but maybe they don't exist.
I'm probably being impatient. I've only been playing in the casino for 3-4 weeks, but I'm consistently losing and just want to find out ways to speed the learning curve a bit. Not huge losses, but I don't really feel like I'm getting better. I'm playing very tight and keep losing on good hands (QQ, JJ, AKs, etc.) to lucky draws. I know that, in the long run, odds are against the "drawers" looking to the river for the gut-shot straight, the set, the flush, etc., but it sure isn't feeling that way. Very frustrating.
Best as I can recall, here are my experiences thus far (most visits to the casino have been for 2-3 hours, and I'm playing at a 3/6 table--the lowest offered at this casino):
Visit #1: +$20
Visit #2: dead even
Visit #3: -$40
Visit #4: -$100
Visit #5: +$15
Visit #6: dead even
Visit #7: +$5
Visit #8: -$40
Visit #9: -$100 (this one was over about 4 1/2 hours)
NL Tourney #1: -$60 (finished #30 of 100)
NL Tourney #2: -$60 (finished #37 of 100)
Not including tourneys, I'm losing about $25-$30 per visit. Maybe that's OK considering I'm new, but it can sure get costly if I play longer or more frequently.
Can anyone else share with me their early-on experiences? Maybe I'll feel better. ...Or maybe I'll know to hit the books more again before more table time!
Thanks for all the help. It's great to have a place to share these experiences...though in person would be much better. No wonder Dutch Boyd has a "crew!".....lol |
