strength of play within a hand Where is your strength within a hand…we always talk about being a strong heads-up player or strong at the beginning of a tournament, strong at the final table etc. But rarely do we talk about our weakness or strength at different areas of the hand. Let me set it up as follows:
Pre-flop – setting the tone…My pockets have the most potential.
Flop..... - Boasting………...I hit…did you?
Turn.....- The challenge……I don’t need another card and am going to make it ..............expensive for you to try to outdraw me.
River....- The dual…………I’m the best….put up or shut up.
Now I know that you are going to say…it depends on the opponent, the pot, the board, blah, blah, blah. But whether you realize it or not…you are stronger and more comfortable at one area or another…and have leaks at another area and it is important to discuss these leaks, strengths so that you can get on with improving your game.
Some players bodies might violently tremble, attempting a semi-bluff at the turn when they are check raised, while others with nerves of steel might call or fold without emotion…where maybe their reactions might be different if it were the flop, pre-flop or river. Maybe you feel better about it at the pre-flop because you have not seen any board cards yet or at the flop you have 71% of your hand and can make a comfortable decision now....or at the turn you just might come back with a strong re-raise to really apply some pressure.
Regardless of the play there are areas that you are more comfortable at and will make your most strategic moves and there are area’s that your knees will begin to buckle.
Where is your strength or weakness and why, in what way?
