everyone that plays poker relys on some luck because no matter what your starting hand is nobody knows what the next 5 cards are going to be. but it is true that you will definatly have more people in on hands in a freeroll than the wsop

Pro players can hone the're skills to the point that they cut down on the luck % and they do win alot , thats why they are pros right. But you never can eliminate the luck from the game 100%. Otherwise you would see the same player winning every hand and game right.

Limit games can get VERY annoying since alot of ppl think the game is called "always raise". This pisses me off, but then again if you got the nuts, then alot more ppl may call to keep you honest.

I've played with many types of players and found that anyone can be lucky, but it takes a lot to make it deep in a tourney. Although there are some players that get lucky cards every so often and double up getting a strong chip advantage. Most of the time they die at the final table but sometimes they get lucky...

You need the right combination of luck and skill. Luck will win you a hand or two, but skill will make you capitalize on those wins. In a multi, it takes a lot of both in order to make the final table. In some games, you need more like then others.

NL Hold'em with good players is mainly skill. You have to know how to play your opponent and not your cards sometimes. Limit hold'em is 40% luck 60% skill of know when to raise. But limit hod'em seems to drive more chasers but it depends on the limit you are playing at. Pot limit takes a little bti of skill but you get assholes who bet the pot when in no limit they would be less. Sticking to what I have said, poker is gambling. You have your chances and your advanteges of knowing how to play. But it also roughs people up with difficult calls in tight spots.

NL- Skill with a little bit of luck

PL- Skill with more luck than NL

Limit- Luck with a good amount of skill

It really is a combonation of both.

Skill: Texas Hold'em definitely takes a lot of skill when playing. You need to know when to raise or fold your hands. When and how to be deceptive and also when to bluff.

Luck: Whether your cards come up or not.

I think you guys might be trying to compare this the wrong way............True skill is not measured in one session, it is measured over a number of sessions, or an entire poker career. Can luck outweigh skill in one tournament? absolutely. And this would appear that luck has conquered skill. Can it outweigh skill over a lifetime.....Not an icecubes chance in hell. Anyone who says different really should not play poker because you believe that all poker is fate and that you cannot do anything to improve you game and make more money. You are saying that it is all pre-determined and that cards control the game not the players. And that applies to limit, NL, PL, ANY LIMIT.....in the long run SKILL ALWAYS PREVAILS........no question.....the math says so.

Very good post Franky...no one can argue with that. You are so right, we need to look at it in a much larger scale and not measure it by one hand, or one game or one tournament and not even one day or one week! overall skill will prevail...some can get lucky...but for how long can they remain lucky.
