| | | | My stats from $3 tourney yesterday Hi All: I was in a $3 tourney yesterday, and while i did finish in the money (67th of 1674= 10.05), I am getting frustrated in just finishing in the money. I am posting my hand stats in hopes that some of the better players may be able to gleen some info from this, and pass it along to me. For example should I be seeing more flops on small blind, even if most of the time I had rags?
During current Hold'em session you were dealt 178 hands and saw flop:
- 18 out of 20 times while in big blind (90%)
- 6 out of 20 times while in small blind (30%)
- 25 out of 138 times in other positions (18%)
- a total of 49 out of 178 (27%)
Pots won at showdown - 9 of 13 (69%)
Pots won without showdown - 7
Thank you for you help

| | | | Your stats about pots won without showdown tell the whole story. 7 is not enough, you definetely have to start stealing more blinds. Hope this helped, goodluck next time. | |

| | | | Thanks Eman: Im not sure if it was the low $ limit of the tourney, but when I was getting premium starting hands and rasing 4 to 6 times the BB I was still getting called. Any ideas on how I can better steal the blinds?
Thanks

| | | | Bottom line is if you lead out with a preflop bet you gotta follow up with another bet after the flop regardless if the flop hit you or not. You gotta lean on the callers and if he just calls your raise after the flop then chances are he is drawing at something. Then on the turn if the card comes off that doesn't look like he helped his draw then come at him one more time, however if he was drawing at say a straight or flush and the turn could have made him his hand then u might want to slow down. All this going on you are still trying to hit your good starters on the flop and turn while trying to just drive the other person out of the pot. But of course this is not an exact science because some people you can just not get them to muck a hand. | |

| | | | its hard to say without knowing more details but i think you might be defending your blind too much - you saw the flop 90% when you were big blind. I know you need to defend your blinds sometimes but there must have been a few hands you called a raise with trash hands just because you were in a blind position
firstly. i understand that players need to defend their big blind sometimes so that they done get bullied out with a raise when theyre on a blind. However, if you have K2 off suit and theres a few players in the hand - do not call a raise of 2 times the big bling. The chances are someone raised because they have strong hand and unless the flop hits you big time youll more than likely fold at the flop.
This is an area im trying to tighten up as well - calling the raise and then immediately folding at the flop due to the hand being weak | |

| | | | Hi Fellow Members: Thanks for the advice, and the information you provided. I tried to put some of it to use yesterday, and did find that I was taking more smaller pots without showdowns, although I can still not get some people to fold pre-flop. It may be the low buy-in for the tournaments. Does anyone think that once the non-folders have been identified, that it might be better to just call or check with premium hole cards, and really try to nail them on the flop??

| | | | hmmm not satisfied with just being in the money? if you piad $3 and got $10+ back you made money. you are on the right track. keep it up and sooner or later you will place higher. | |

| | | | Hello! so im thinkin....i am kinda new to poker and do you guys think its mostly luck or is there some skill involved in it as well ? for ex. when u bluff someone good so they fold i guess thats the only skill in Holdem eh? | |

| | | | Those stats do not completely tell the whole story. You can not base your play on those stats because sometimes like almost every time you are in the SB, you have a crap hand and someone raises it really big. But what Eman said is correct. Steal pots. I know Matro said this somewhere sometime that the reason he is able to play big hands with not the best cards is because he gets that money from stealing pots. If you steal pots, they will all add up and really help your stack and therefore you will be able to play more hands and hopefully win even more. Also, if you have a large stack, others will almost give up a pot to you because they are afraid of you. | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
