describing an opponent I can tell from reading the post that many member still do not know how to describe a player and use the wrong descriptions, so here goes: TIGHT & LOOSE - should only be used for pre-flop descriptions, nothing more - it has nothing to do with their play after the flop. A tight player only plays premium cards...so the tight player plays fewer hands. A loose player will play any of the cards, depending on how loose they are and therefore plays many hands...it has nothing to do with betting. or how they play after the flop. AGGRESSIVE & PASSIVE - explaines their betting and pushing, and any other type of forceful play. A passive player will not force and only raise with the best of hands...depending on how passive they are, they will fold at the drop of a hat. An aggressive player is going to raise often and strong and is going to apply pressure to you any time they get a chance. Aggressive and passive can be used to describe pre-fop or post flop actions...a pre flop description can be tight and aggressive...meaning the player is playing only premium cards and is also betting them strong. Tight and loose can only be used for pre-flop play...what cards does that player play and therefore how many hands do they play.
So the proper expressions are tight, very tight, passive, very passive, aggressive, very agressive etc.
If we all talk the same lingo, then we know what you mean. Do not use loose to describe a aggressive player or tight to describe a passive player etc.
The best Opponent for a good player (one he wants to play against) - is a loose passive player.
The good player - is a tight aggressive player
The dangerous player (the loose canon) - is a loose aggressive player.
