Sit-N-Go Strategy, A Heartwarming Mindset.

Hey, this is my first legit thread on this forum, i'm on some other forums, but i like the setup here so i wanted to join. Anyways, just thought i would like to offer a simple mindset strategy for playing sit-n-gos.

Last time i played sng's, playing on absolute poker i managed to win 6 (6 handed) sit-n-go's in a row at the $40+4 buy in. I then went on to get second 4 times in a row and didn't cash on my 11th sng. So basically cashed 10/11.

Anyways, thats just a testiment to how reckless mid range sngs can be. My theory on sngs is that at mid range, the tables are filled with guys on tilt, moving down from blowing up on the higher levels. The lower levels, such as 10 and 20 dollar buy ins are fairly tough, as they're often filled with poor chaps like myself, simply trying to play good poker and build a bankroll up. Anyways, thats my theory on sng game selection at least at absolute poker...while playing good sng strategy of course, letting tilted players knock themselves out..

The main point of this thread is developing a mindset that will keep you from going insane over bad beats in sngs.

I calculated that i would need 440 dollars to play 10 40+4 sngs at absolute poker. And to make money in my ten tries i would simply need to win 3 out of ten, or you can imagine some other combos such as win 1 or 2 and get lots of seconds and so on.

Anyways, i found this to be a "heartwarming" mindset for myself. To play 10 sngs, with a decent bankroll, and a good mindset that would keep me from going crazy when bad beats come along. Basically, with sngs, it is good to calculate what you need to accomplish over a span of entries to make money, then play solid poker and go for it. Simple, but effective.

"i expect to win 3 out of 10", focus on that, don't go on tilt, pick good tables, and your bankroll will grow.

With that said, your streak could very easily be chalked up to a hot streak. There will be many times, I'm sure, where you go and lose 10/11 games (I know it's happened to me before). To determine the level of SnGs that you want to play at, you should generally take your bankroll and divide it by 20. You can now play SnGs of this level or lower. For example, if you had a $500 bankroll, you can play SnGs of $25 or less.

That said, it is good to keep in perspective that all you need to do to make a profit is win 3 out of 10 games. I think people often forget that because of the high ROI on wins, they can lose more than they think they should. The same goes for baseball - if someone is hitting 1 in 3, a beginner may think that batter sucks - when really he is going for the batting title!

Good post Hawk, your strategy will pay off for sure if you stick with it, play within your means, and keep up the solid poker. I tried this strategy a few times at 100 and 200$ 6 handed sng's on stars and won big on a few sessions and lost quite a bit on a couple other rounds. The 6 handed games are excellent, and usually when you get down to heads up, the blinds are not too high and you can use your whole bag of tricks then.

Not if the Bambino, the Splendid Splinter, Charlie Hussel, the Georgia Peach or Jumpin Joe were in the league. This 1 for 3 hitter would be in 2nd or worse for sure.
