Default Best starting hand in 7 Card Stud HL

Rolled up 5's man.... 555

I just realised rolled up 5's is the best starting hand because when you play with 555 you can possibly scoope taking down the high and the low with this and and you will find that most of the time other people will not scoope or at least not make a low A2345 making a straight and the nut low because your holding 555.

I do not agree there WiredDragon. I have had As, Ad and Ah given to me. There is not always a low pot to win in stud h/l or omaha h/l, but there is always a high pot. The 3 Aces gives you a good start with the high pot in stud h/l.

You also as you stated can get the lowest A-5, but since Aces can be a high card you also got the 10-A straight possible. You do have to bet according to the players around you thou. Alot of people see one Ace in opponents hand and will be hard to get to play the hand.

Other than that Three ACES for me is the best hand in h/l stud.

Its hard to get paid though with 3 aces, b/c you basically have them all, and a good player usually won't come in without being able to draw both ways, and if they see you have an ace, even bad players tend to be far more cautious when they see that ace.

I enjoy A2x, where x is 3, 4, 5, or 6, and all suited. Gives you a decent straight chance, solid low chance, as well as a good flush possibility. Makes it even better when the A isn't showing, no one takes what you have seriously, and believes you are betting a low draw at best the entire way.

Isint AA2 a good hand also? I'm not that good at 7 card stud HL. but i mean you have the A2 and the other people can't expect you to have aces in the door.

I think AA2 is a good hand DJ but you have to remember there that opponents with a good low draw and a good high draw are already one card ahead of you in theory.

I'm a beginner to and only play 7 stud hi/lo in HORSE games.
While I may go for a high pot only sometimes(ie. play the game just as you would 7 stud high) I don't like to aim for just a low pot without a very good chance.

In the latter case, like Cow stated, people on low draws don't always hit an 8 or better low. However, they will at times build your high pot for you. Making it worthwhile to play with just a high draw.
A low draw isn't always possible. On the other hand, with a very good low draw, you can sometimes take advantage when opponents call and pad-out the pot for you and miss their lows - making a half pot win worthwhile.

I think the best starting hands should include all your 3 cards. Like 3 lows suited like Mars said, 3 highs suited, or 3 of a kind ( and like MZZ said you might not expect to always get paid with AAA)

I think the main thing with 7-stud h/l is to concentrate carefully on the
opponents hands and to always know what has been folded. Look away to watch TV or read a forum post and you're seriously effecting your chances of making good judgements. No point going for your draws when most of your outs have been folded.
