Default Top Poker Books in my Bookcase

For those that are interested, I have read over 30 books on poker.

The top 13 (not necessarily in order)

Internet Texas Holdem
The Poker Tournament Formula
Sit N Go Strategy
Harrington on Holdem I
Harrington on Holdem II
Harrington on Holdem III
Full Tilt Poker Strategy Guide
Texas Holdem Odds and Probabilities
How Good is your Limit Holdem
Small Stakes Holdem
Super System II
No Limit Holdem: Theory and Practice
Readem and Reap: A Career FBI's Agent's Guide to Decoding Poker Tells

I'd be interested in anyone else's opinion on their top books.

HoH books are exellent.
Small Stakes Hold'em is possibly the most complete limit-hold'em work ever.
Supersystem 2 I've never finished the NLHE section, the rest is excellant.

Nothing beats experience but you put two players with the same experience heads-up I'd take the guy who's done the research and knows the theories. I come across situations every day that I reference something I've read that helps me make a better decision.

Poker is all about making better decisions and minimizing mistakes. Reading will help you do both. Whether reading a book, magazine or this forum it's all about giving yourself an advantage.

No question books will help your game. Now I do believe some of the top pros have never read a poker book but actually the majority of the top pros have read many poker boooks and online use all the computer tracking systems available.

using books enables you to gain the benefit of top players many years of high level experience. Unfortunately it doesnt all traslate to all the different stake levels fully but over all it can save you many months experience if you pick up good advice others have learned the hard way

yea, i have to agree with the general concenus here, reading articles on the web, browsing forums and reading various books will help your game alot, i know it did mine.

So far i have read:

Small stakes hold em by David Skalansky - excellent book for limit hold em

Hold em wisdom for all players by Daniel Negraneu - was extremely dissapointed, he is the player i admire most, and thought the book would give a real insight on the player many think is one of the best in the world....apparently not...

Play poker like the Pros by Phill Hellmuth - only read the first chapter or so of this and got bored..haven't gone back to it

Harrington On Holdem Volume I - Half way through it and throughly enjoying it, an excellent book, deffinetly recommend it.

I'm thinking of buying: Advanced Tournament poker by David Skalansky, and Super System by Doyle Brunson...what is the general opinon of the usefulness of these books?

p.s. thank you very much for the list Rocket, i will check some of those out

Get SNyder's book or a Harrington II rather than Advanced Tour by Sklansky.

Super System is excellent but is for many games (not just Holdem)

The thing with poker books is you need to get one that is neutral to the various playing styles out there. I was given Hellmuth's book, "Play Poker Like the Pro's", and it did my game no good. The advice he gives is structured for a very tight game - and that simply isn't my style, so what good does the tight game advice do for me?

Another thing that needs to be considered when determining the validity of a book is if it applies to all the various skill levels. You may know how to tell the perfect bluff...but if you're opponent is on tilt or just doesn't know what he's doing, he'll still call you down with bottom pair.

Jay, Negraneu's first book is supposed to be more generalized tips. The second he is working on is supposed to be the super-aggressive style strategy book.
