ok, pretty good play in my opinion through out. but here are a few things id work on. if you play a hand from the button RAISE. unless you have a monster and he has reraised you a lot from when you flat called. other than that, raise, you have position. a lot of the time people miss the flop HU and with position you can steal a lot. also, i like to play almost every hand HU unless they raise. i saw you flded 72o, ya ya i know about 72o and all that, but HU any pair you hit is most likely ahead. now i wont play every hand he RAISES, but i will play almost every hand if i can limp or raise. aggressiveness is always key, you checked the flop a few times when you should put out a bet if he checks. just try to take the pot.

heres an example:

you hit a pair on the flop, bet it. i know he flopped a huge hand, but if you bet a little, he either reraises or flat calls. either way ur almost positive your beat and you wont waste any more chips. if you bet 1600 on the flop, then you save yourself the 2500 on the turn. every bit helps. hope this helps. hand 1, see hand 7 (I forgot this the first time)

hand 2, I think that is raising too much, i normally min raise or 2.5x bb raise. Even limping is a good idea. Good heads up play depends mostly on your post flop play.

hand 3, I call that early in the match unless i have a very good read that say he has a big hand.

hand 4 i probably fold to keep a tight image, don't vary your raise amounts.

hand 5, easy hand, you played it right

hand 6 DON'T VARY YOUR RAISE! raising is fine, he seems to be playing tight preflop

hand 7 nothing for you to do, call a min raise if your hand is suited here

hand 8 see hand 6

hand 9 see hand 7

hand 10, this is why i like to limp allot heads up, i can see flops with these hands cheaply. continuation bet with your style is good.

hand 11 bet the flop. Turn bet is okay, you CAN fold that river to anything but a min bet.

hand 12 see hand 6 and 10.

hand 13 see hand 7.

hand 14 see hand 6. dump it to the all in. Weak aces are the WORST hand to call an all in with. (I said that without even seeing the flop)

hand 15 see hand 7.

hand 16 hand 6, although you have been fairly constant at this amount now. But also see hand 10, you would love to see a flop against his hand.

hand 17 I don't like to raise much out of position. Raise amount is good, but that's probably not enough of I hand I would to make that play with.

hand 18 (post 2) bet the flop, you probably had 6 outs, and you already represented a hand preflop. Remember he raised you when he had AJ, so he probably doesn't have that. Betting the turn is a decent play.

hand 19 same way I would play it.

hand 20 right play, call once in a while to see a flop with an oddball hand, it's eaiser to break your opponent when they hit hard, like a K22 flop.

hand 21 hand 7

hand 22 first raise at this level I'd prefer a real hand, I lean towards limping with this hand in position.

hand 23 hand 7

hand 24 you are keeping the raise amounts the same now, that is good.

hand 25 I like the preflop check. I'm NOT bluffing that flop, he is staying in with a king, and possibly with a queen. You cost yourself a lot of chips that you didn't have to.

hand 26 nicely played

hand 27 shame, but nothing you can do. If you don't raise from the big blind, people will call with more junk hands, giving you the opportunity to get some more value out of this hand, but that will also raise how often you loose with it.

hand 28 you played it fine

hand 29 don't show, ever.

hand 30 it's an okay play, i lean towards limping. flop bet is good, when he calls expect him to have a weak ace. Turn play is good. His cards are just unlucky for you.

Default Heads-up

THF Player of the Year
I think it's good to keep up the aggression from the SB position like you have done here.

I don't think your play is bad. I'm certainly no expert but some time ago I made a conscious effort to improve my heads-up play and I've shown a vast improvement in that part of my game. I still make mistakes, play terrible sometimes, get bad cards, bad luck and lose when I shouldnt of done but I win a hell of a lot more than I used to. What I write down here I'm sure you know already but I'll carry on and say what I thought and what I think about heads-up in general.

I think heads-up is a difficult thing to criticise and it's certainly a game where you feel your way through it against different opponents and in different situations according to the stacks sizes.
Strangely, I think it's often easier to play heads-up when you are even-stacked or losing, than it is when your the big stack. I think big stack play requires maybe more patience and concentration. You must keep up your aggression but really have to be careful not to let him back in the game.

It's good to mix things up too. You are aggressive, particularly from the SB. He knows you're pushing and can't chance his luck too much.

Here though, I feel that sometimes you need to let him play a little too. Maybe mess him up occasionally sometimes with your calls and checks and mix things up a bit. You are well ahead and can chip away at his stack- but-you both know that he's going to be pushing back at you sooner rather than later. He knows that you can't possibly have a strong hand all the time and he knows he will play back at you at sometime. When he does play back, you need to get out or be sure you have him beat. You can chip away and steal the blinds say 6 hands in a row but if he plays back it's risky trying to push him off the pot unless you're really strong. Those previous good plays of yours go to waste when he wins his hand.

It's also a very tiring game I find and requires top concentration at all times-the last thing you need is for all your good play to go to waste because you lose one good pot.

There are 4 hands that I noticed that you might of played differently. I can't locate one of them but I think you had 98o and I thought in relation to blinds and stacks you might of wanted to play. The other ones I noticed were these:

Would you prefer a check on the turn? You are representing a K on the flop and turn (It is possible that he'd expect you to raise with a K preflop, since you have shown aggression a lot preflop here) and it's a risky hand to get involved in I think.

I'd just put this down and lose my preflop bet. You're well ahead and you'll grind him down and take him. I'd call with decent pockets but I don't see a reason to call this. He's got to have something here ( in the event he didnt have that much) However, you're very likely to be behind and trusting your luck. If you call you have one thing in your favour- you could get lucky and win the game. You have two major things against you - 1.you call and lose and he's right back in the game. 2. You're very likely an underdog and the odds are against you winning. Better to fold and wait for a good opportunity I think.

I think you're a skilled player RiverR and know most of this stuff anyway but there are a few things I bear in mind when playing.

Heads-up is sometimes an easy game. You get good cards or you hit flops. Sometimes you play weak opponents who call with a good hand, fold a bad one and raise a very good one. It's usually easy to beat that type of player.

You can't play standard poker when heads-up if you want to win regularly.
You must be prepared to be aggressive on a variety of hands and fairly often on no hand at all.

The main strategy thing about heads-up play is that when you're in the SB, you act first. You get the chance to show aggression preflop. After the flop you act last, which gives you information on your opponent and if he doesnt show aggression you again have the chance to.

In simple terms ,in a heads-up game you should be playing most( but not all) of your offensive poker from the SB and mostly defend( but not always) from the BB.

Playing this way, I believe gives you some insight into your opponent. You find out whether he calls a lot, folds a lot, re-raises a lot, check-raises frequently on good hands, bluffs a lot, check-raise bluffs etc etc You find out something about how his game is in relation to yours.

I know that with a hand like Q7 I'm a slight favourite against any two random cards. With a hand like J8 I'm about evens against any two random cards (Actually edit that: - I'm around evens with Q7) I think you have to bear this in mind and get used to raising when it's likely that you have the best hand. I'm not saying that everytime you have J8 that your ahead of course but I believe these are good things to keep in mind. You must be prepared to raise often preflop.

I think a raise from the small blind is what you often want to be looking for. Unless you have a good reason not to raise. Opponents who repeatedly call from the SB make life easier for you and you can punish them badly if you happen to hit from a checked BB with some trash. Also, if your opponent seems to have a tendency to call from the SB on waek hands in order to see a flop, it's sometimes good to raise from the BB. You do have to be carful that he isnt slow playing a big hand but you do have to take risks at heads-up which you wouldnt always take at a full table.

If you come up against an opponent who repeatedly calls your raises, then you usually have one of two things I think. You have an unskilled player who you need to be careful with or you have a skilled player who simply wont let you bully him with preflop raises. In the latter case you would want to raise more. If you can take pots with your strong hands and continuation bets then the times his does play back at you and you then fold, you're likely still in profit from all the calls he's giving you. It's a simplistic way of putting things this and heads-up play isnt simple but it does stand to reason that if you are aggressive and raising and taking pots down, the times you do get re-raised and you have nothing and fold, you are still likely to be showing a profit.

I think another important thing to bear in mind is that one BIG mistake will lose you the game but a number of little mistakes, when you've made a raise in the wrong place and have to fold it for instance, won't lose you the game.
I don't mind folding the odd hand, especially if I'm the aggressor. Let him think I'm folding my rubbish and raising my strong hands -I just happen to be getting good hands a lot! When the blinds get high you still need to show the same aggression. Infact moreso because this is usually where the game is won. If your overly aggressive when the blinds are high youre obvioulsy a target for a trap and need to show caution. However you can't let blinds go away for free preflop unless you have a really poor chance of winning the hand. It's nice to get ahead when the blinds are low but often it's what happens at later levels that decide the game.

I don't mind also firing large bets at opponents now and again when I have a good hand. I'll even put them allin fairly early sometimes. It puts pressure on and reminds them that they are playing for their whole stack all of the time. There are times when your KK and QQ are called by there A2,KJ or whatever and you get an early win. Some weaker players get so frustrated with your raises that they play back with inferior hands OR they'll overbet and telegraph their strong hands because they think your loose.
Also, if you have been playing very aggressive, then an allin from you wouldnt be that suprising to them and should likely tell them that you do indeed have a great hand and theyll fold.

If I do have the nuts then I might like to go allin rather than slow play it. The chances are he hasnothing anyway and I dont get paid much anyway , on the other hand there's a chance hes's got a good hand, calls and I win the game.

OK you don't get a pay off with your nuts one time but opponents don't like the allins, do this a second time and they may be more likely to call because they think your bluffing.

It's somtimes beneficial to mix things up a bit with your A's and K's. Occasionally and agianst the right opponent it might be your choice to check a BB with good cards. That works sometimes. Most of the time I want to put on pressure with my A or K. If you hit a flop your in a good position and if you don't hit the flop your still in a good posotion because youve already represented a strong hand with your initial raise.

I'm afriad I don't know who wrote these, so I'm probably infringing something or other. These are some things I once saved.

The Aggressor Will Win
In their book Hold’em Poker for Advanced Players authors Sklansky and Malmuth explain that a player in the small blind can win by raising with every hand. In the example the blinds are $50 and $100 which means there is $150 in the pot. The player on the button is the small blind and must act first before the flop. He raises by putting in an additional $150. If Big Blind folds, he has risked $150 to win $150. If the big blinds folds half the time the small blind will show a profit. He still will almost certainly profit in these situations since he will not only often steal you blind, but will also sometimes win when you call as well.

Suppose you only call in the big blind with the best 33% of the hands that you are dealt. Then he can raise every time and if called, be done with it-that is, not bet the flop-unless he flops a good hand. When this is the case, he's going to win $150 two out of three times, plus he's going to win more sometimes. He's going to lose the $150 less than one out of three times.

If you find yourself against a player using this strategy you will need to counter it by calling more or raising him. You have to let him know that it could cost him more than $150 if he raises you every time.

Judge your opponents
You need to judge your opponents. Poker is a game about making judgments. You need to test the waters by doing the raising and being the aggressor. If you find yourself in a game with a passive player you now know how to beat him. If on the other hand your opponent is also aggressive you will have to use some discretion and very your play.

Playing heads up poker is a lot like playing chicken. This means you will need to bluff more before the flop and sometimes fire away after the flop with nothing. With just two players there will be many times when the flop doesn’t hit either player. Many times it is the person that acts first who will win the pot. Just remember that occasionally your opponent will have a legitimate. Although you don’t want to be bluffed out of a pot you will sometimes have to give it up to save your self from elimination.

Size Matters
The size of your chip stack makes a big difference in how you play. If you have a big stack you can be much more aggressive as you opponent might be inclined to fold more often waiting for a big hand. While this may work there will be a time when they are forced to make a stand. Although you want to keep the pressure on you also don’t want to double up your opponent too often or you will soon find yourself with the short stack.

Beware the Limper
Players limp in from the small blind for two reasons. They are either trying to see the flop cheaply or they are trying to trap an aggressive opponent. Again this calls for judgment on your part. Your objective in heads up play is to try and extract the most money from your opponent. If you have a big hand and know your opponent will raise then you can limp in and try for a check raise.

Stay aggressive heads-up, and also consider mixing it up by slowplaying everything once in a while. Did you make the nut flush on the flop? Top pair with top kicker? Just call your opponent down. It’ll really bewilder him when you show it down on the river, and will make him afraid to bluff you in future hands.
