In home games i love betting in the dark and i mean in the dark, late position couple of players i haven't even seen my hole cards yet and i'll triple up the BB just to see if anyone is actually trying to read me or if someone isn't even paying attention. It's a cheap way to seperate the "players" from the "playees" early in a game. That's one way i've used dark action.

There is a regular player I know that bets in the dark always. Even if he is not UTG..

I've seen him bet all-in without touching his hand. This is a 50-50 call almost even with Stuff like QK.. This one guy has the luck of hell. I have seen him squash AA with a 72 (not a lie, and not online) and he pulls two pair.

But I must say the way he plays otherwise has grealy improved my skill. I have WIRGTD or more so WWRD) in my mind if I act before him.

Pure Crazy, but I have seen him have so many suck-outs squashing obvious winners before the turn or river that nothing surpises me online at all.

I have always thought that most of the people I play with bet in the dark, usually don't know what the hell they are doing. They think it is a cool non-traditional thing to do. I don't understand why people get our of whack when someone does it. Just play your cards, the percentages and the situation. You can't tell me you get a true read on your opponent everytime. So they check or raise in the dark, just play the cards.

It can piss people off, but it is still a risky play. Saw Doyle Brunson only look at 1 card and won the pot. Played in Vegas once guy kept doing it. He was drunk off his ass and kept pulling out winning hands. Talk about pissed off players..LOL. Usually if you do for real you only have 1 caller.

I remember this episode, it was the final table at a limit holdem event. Author of "Positevely Fifth Street" and tournement veteran James McManus was caught of guard when amateur Elix Powers bet in the dark before the flop. His tactic worked, (though I dont recomend it) and McManus replied "Your disrespecting the game". McManus was obviously on tilt when he later called Powers on the river with a queen high (though Powers made a now infamous quote of "He called me with Jack-high).

Personally, I think the dark check after the flop is a bit unethical.

If they at least pretend to look at their cards, then I don't care because it seems as know they looked.

The kind I'm referring to is what Williams did to Arieh at the WSOP main event last year. Williams put his money in from the SB after Arieh raised from the BB . IF a player puts their money down in that spot, they have bad position because they have to act first. By dark checking, they take away that advantage unfairly IMO. They should at least see a flop first, then if they want to check fine. Same goes for dark betting.

To me, it's just cheap, unethical, and plain sleazy.

When you check in the dark with a pocket pair and it comes up on the next card, that's the best feeling. I think that's the best way to do it.. or if your on any draw.

Its especially fun to bet in the dark in a small in person tournament, people have no way of reading your reactions.
