Default Did I make the right decision?

Last night I was playing in my league game and had made it to the last 4 players. I was close to being tied for second (not really sure who had more) in chips. The first place player had almost tripple what I did, and the fourth place guy was all but eliminated with about 8k in chips (blinds were 2k and 4k) Naturally the fourth player went all in on the big blind. The guy I was tied with for 2ed folded and the chip leader called. I looked down to see pocket 8s and I thought that in order to make a run for the lead I would have to double up at some point, so I went all in. Naturally I was called, and the 4th guy showed his 6s. I grinned from ear to ear. Tht chip leader then thhrew over 9s, and I realized I was all but finished. No one caught anything and the 9s won. Did I make a decent decision in my position, or was that to loose, to early?

Post its a tough game

who's to say it was a bad call!!!!!??????with pocket eights i wouldnt have gone all in...to many losers for ya...sometimes its better to wait a hand out or just throw it......badbeats get the best of us and truly pocket pairs are only good when ya hit one on the flop(thats if they are lower than a queen)

Not a bad choice bot not a good choice, you figured you had the 4th place guy beat and the 1st place guy probably just had 2 face cards. I would of done the same thing

I wouldn't have made that move, especially the way you described the table. Why risk it? Big stack isn't going to be scared off when u move on him and you have a player facing elimination. I understand that if you both go bust you still have third onlock, but small stack gets lucky and you lose the side pot HELLO STINKHOLE. I'm awfully tight that late in the game and large payout increases are visible unless of course i get small stack all alone. Getting heads up is your best chance of winning the tournament, if you aren't even stacked don't worry it doesn't take that many hands to even the playing field.

have to agree with guru. tighten up and let the chip leader do the dirty work. 3rd maybe decent but i am sure second place money is more. middle pocket are tough hands to play anytime in the game. towards the end like that i would have bowed out and waited for a better hand.

I agree with them even though with 4 people at the table pockets are a big hand. But that late in the game the low stack will be very tight hoping that the middle players will get eliminated by the big stack. So even though the low stack moved in with his lower pockets, he was thinking the same thing. He was the first to act. And the bigger stack is like you said naturally called because it wasnt much for him to call with face cards. (or any hand for that matter) I think your lucky that the low stack at the table only had 6's IMO. I would have just mucked those 8s knowing there would be 3 people vying for the pot. Next time think that the low stack has a big hand, fold and hope he goes down.

i agree playing into the chip leader with 8's is a risky call, but then again u never know he could have had absolutly nothing and let u take it, thats why u gotta love poker

Even though you're short-handed and eights are a strong hand there, the difference is in calling instead of bringing in. The short stack is going to tighten up and the chip leader is not afraid of being hurt by anyone. I would have folded and tried to inch up to second with a decent shot at first by waiting for a better hand to bring in.
