Poker Idol Competition - $$ to be won Some of you may know of pop idol and such shows well this is the poker equivalent. Fonz has agreed to give a small amount of cash as a prize in there is enough interest but this is really all about pride and the right to call yourself THF Poker Idol champion. Please post here or pm me if you are interested so I have an idea whether this competition is going to be worth running or not.
The format will be
1st round Entrants will be given one scenario (what do you do here, where did I go wrong?) and one aspect of poker strategy/theory to talk about.
The questions will be posted in this forum with obvious titles (poker idol round 1 questions etc). Everyone is free to enter the first round. To enter people will pm me their answers which should be no more than 75 words for the scenario and no more than 100 words for the strategy part. Myself and Fink are going to be the judges of the competition. In some rounds we may have guest judges to help with the work and to ensure fairness.
The judges will decide which entries are the best and the bottom half of the entries will face a vote to see who remains in the competition. These votes will be either in the public rooms (anyone can vote) or the Approved Members Room. Generally the entries will be annonymous so people will not know who they are voting for. It is envisaged that arround 25% of the field will be eliminated each round. When it comes to public votes people cannot vote for themselves but can vote for other entries in the competion if they wish.
There will be as many rounds as required to get down to one winner. It is envisaged that the competition will last about a month with each round being about once a week/ once every 5 days.
Judges will be judging the competition on the following grounds
1) validity - is the advice solid
2) argument - how well is it expressed and how convincinly is it argued
3) originality - is it plagerised? Is it original thought, ideas, expression etc
When it comes to the public vote though people can vote how they wish.
Fuller terms and conditions are in white below (i dont want to clutter the thread for those with casual interest in this competition) and people can highlight the blank space below to read them. In all matters the judges decision is final. If there is a sense that people are colluding, telling people to vote for them, getting random friends with 1 post to vote for them etc during the public rounds then the judges will be within their rights to overturn the public vote. If there appears for other reasons someone is knocked out and it seems to be a huge injustice then the judges will be within their rights to keep that person in the competition for an extra round but this is not something which is envisaged.
In some rounds there will be a choice of which question to answer and in some rounds there wont be. Some rounds make break from the format slightly. To speed up the competition slightly one round is likely to be based on normal posts (starting threads and responding to threads) in the forums.
Whilst the judges will select which people will be eligible for elimination it will generally be the public that ultimately decides who goes.
The judges will interprete the voting though so that if there were 7 people eligable for getting knocked out and the votes were 1,1,4,20,24,25 three would exit but if the votes were 1,3,5,6,20,22,23 then four would exit. Whilst this sounds complicated this is something that would be rarely applying in practice.
Once all the entries have been put in then the question thread(s) will be opened so that anyone can put their views across.
Generally speaking the elimination round will use the same posts/answers that were put to the judges but this might not always be the case.
If someone who has entered the competion is unable to play in a round then they generally will not be disqualified but they will automatically be up for being eliminated the following week and judges can choose to eliminate them if they wish. If people know they are going to be away one week then they can ask for that weeks question in advance but they will have the same time period to answer the question in.
It will be up to the judges discression to decide whether or not people will be allowed into the competition after round one is over. Generally speaking they will not be but in unusual circumstances a new entrant would generally be automatically up for elimination in the following round.
In all other areas the judges decision is final and judges are free to deviate from the rules if they feel it is neccisarly for the competition to run smoothly and fairly. |
