Default Texas holdem questions

In a monthly tournament at a friend's house we came up with 2 problems and could find no rules to cover them. Does anyone know the correct answers and can provide a source for the answers.

1. We play a multiple buy-in game, but 1 of the players last night went all in and lost and then sat out several rounds before deciding to make another buy in. Is that permissable or should he have been required to make the buy-in immediately?

2. We play 1,2,3 finishers get a % of the pot. If 2 players go all in and both lose when there are 4 players left, who gets the third place position, or is the third place money split between the 2 all in players who lost?

1. This sort of thing needs to be discussed before the game starts or, as you found out, an argument develops.

Personally, with my friends we dont make an issue about it but we used to still make a 1 or 2 buy in maximum just incase.

Now we double the blinds every ten minutes with unlimited rebuys, but after a few doubling up of the blinds its obviously less profitable to buy in and better to stay for the next game.

2. Out of the two people who went all in and lost, the guy who had more chips before he went all in gets third place.

So

Player one goes all in with 3000 chips
Player two calls all in with 2000 chips
Player three calls all in with 2200 chips

So if player 1 wins the hand, player 3 would get the nod ahead and get third place

If the unlikely event of player 2 and player 3 having 2000 chips and still losing - they would be joint third so would split the cash for third place

Involving rebuys, it should be an immiaite rebuy if they want to have the chips just sit there and pay the blind when it comes to them that is there choice, but the point of a rebuy or an add on isnt to allow them to sit out a few hands and change the course of the game..
and with a person going out with an all in if one person has more chips it goes automatically to third place if they have the same chips its a discussion of a split pot for third or more for second but should be discussed prior to the start of the game

The player should have had to buy in after the current hand finished. Also the player that went out with the most chips should finish higher.

geno for a good list of rules i reccomend homepokertourney.com but for in a home game for the rebuys if it takes him a hand or two to get his chips for the rebuy or however you do it that should not be a big deal however he shouldnt miss the blinds by setting out. if this was to happen then u have a problem

Sounds like everyone knows what they're talking about, just one note, if you are playing a multitable tourney at home you don't have to stop all of the action, but the person busted out should have to buy in before the next hand on his table is dealt.
