Lightbulb Please provide constructive criticism (Open season on The Zombills)

Hi all,

I'm looking to move my game up to the next level. One of the best ways for me is to get honest feedback from good players. I have found the play from THFers is VERY GOOD; as such, I am soliciting feedback from you on my play.

Go at it. I would prefer constructive criticism, but if you want to unload, I'm handing you the gun.

Any feedback is welcome. If you have some insight from some my posts...great. If you've seen some of my hand histories...bring it on.

Who I would really like to hear from is those of you whom I've played against (preferably multiple times). 10:00 EST Pstars game, Freerolls, other THF games, and non-THF games....I don't care. I am interested.

If you have some insight on my game, I want to hear it.

Thanks for your help,

TZB

Zom the only hands I can comment on are the ones I've played against you. I recall only 2 that come to mind. The first one obviously is the time you busted my Aces w/ AQ. You raised preflop and i came over the top w/ a reraise and you went All-in. I'm sure that was a fluke because I've never seen you attempt anything like that afterwards. The other hand happened last game when i had JJ and you had A-10 on the BB w/ a chip advantage. I was short and pushed and you called and spiked an Ace. In your position w/ a chip advantage and me being isolated and short you made the right call. Oh I remember 1 more when you limped UTG w/ AA and I had AK or something and pushed on the BB and I took a big hit.

You play well as the standings in the league game surely indicate. I am probably the wrong person to give you feedback as you are obviously ahead of me at this point. Other than that AQ fiasco i havnt seen you make any plays that I would consider to be less than stellar.

What do you mean by next level??? If you are on a recent run of solid profits beware that things tend to even out in the end. I wouldnt neccessarily consider jumping up limits that can hurt your BR. I , as most players, run through spurts. Its an easy game to get addicted to when the cards are running hot and your hitting flops etc..... When things go sour it can easily take a toll on you especially when the stakes are higher. Just be careful.

Zom... I can't remember specifics, but I remember playing in the nightly PS and you were a challenge. Some of the players were pretty easy to read, and had 1 solid "gear". What I remember from you late in the games, was your ability to mix it up. I changed my game somewhat if I decided to get into a hand with you. Not as much as I had to with Stripes, but you are well on your way. Think your preflop skills and bets are good, and you know when to let a marginal hand go. I think I remember a couple of times when you had a great hand, but didn't sell it for all you could get on the end. Maybe look at pot building techniques, but overall you are extremely solid. I for one am glad for the games, as I learned a hell of a lot from all of you guys. Can't wait to get going again.

PS: 6-9s is still the nutz!

Not necessarily. Zom, I have no idea what your B/R is or anything, so I'll just go with an easy example. Let's say you have the BR to play 1/2 NL, and wanna make the jump to 2/4. I think it's okay to play a game of 2/4 here and there before he has the required bankroll, as long as it's only a game here and there. This way, if you lose, well..rebuild at the 1/2 or .5/1 level. Build it back, play your 1/2, and insert a 2/4 game on occasion.

Yes, I know this is not proper B/R management, but we aren't talking about building a B/R here. Reading books and taking advice from other players will only get you so far, as no one plays your exact type of game (think about it - why would you listen to a tight-passive player, when you like to play loose-aggressive? - they may help you see the advantage of playing tighter, but for the most part, you are going to continue to play loose.) Expierence with better players is what brings you to the next level, and this goes for all games, not just poker. I happen to enjoy tennis, and when I was in my first stages I made my biggest jumps in skill when I was playing with players who were better than me - playing the Varsity starters when I was a bench warmer, for instance. The key is to not jump up too far, as you will lose long before you can gain any real experience.

Thanks for the input, y'all. Please keep it coming.

Squad...when I say the next level, I am not talking about moving up in $$$ play, I'm referring to taking my game to the next level. I need to know what the holes in my game are.

I know my 2 biggest holes are impatience and inconsistency. In particular, I can be in a great groove, get a lot of chips, and then i have a hard time coming down from the high, and I donk my way out of the tourney.

Or....like I just did Sunday at the Fair Poker THF game, I get so "up" for a game, that I play a stupid hand and get knocked out early.

Any and all advice, observations, criticism and suggestions are welcome!!

Thanks,
TZB

Hell Zom. You give me enough trouble at the tables now. I"m sure not gonna help you make it harder for me to play against you. But you do bluff way too much..... I think......maybe.......maybe not..... crap I don't know LOL.

PokerRef...I'm going to take that as a huge compliment because you are definitely one of the players I watch out for.

As far as the bluffing, I would really like to discuss this further, because I'm actually a very tight player normally, but over past 6 months have been trying to play more aggressively. Maybe I'm not doing it right. Am I bluffing pre-flop too much? Post-flop too much?

I'm so confused.

THF Player of the Year
Hey Zombills, I don't mind looking at your HH's of a couple SnG's or tournaments you have played. Send them to my email adress and I will have a look.

If you send them, can you make sure the first hand is on the top?

Thanks, Kaart. I will take you up on that. I'll see if I can pull some from Stars..

Thanks,
