Unhappy bluffing problems

i never bluff when i play, and i know that is a real problem, and my friends even make fun of me about it when we aren't playing. and i want to start, but i dont know of a good way to break into the systematic form of bluffing, i know how one of them plays.....but i just now how to start. much help would be appreciated.

i rarely bluff with no hand but find myself semi-bluffing all the time. like if i've maybe got a low pair like 2,3,4,5 or 6 and theres royalty on the board. if theres a decent pot there i'll raise aggressively. at least when doing this you are leaving yourself a small bit of insurance if someone does call.

there are certain situations when its good to bluff and other times when it isnt - it depends on a lot of factors - most of all whats happened in the previous rounds of betting
for example playing just after you won a big hand and betting big can scare away a lot of people

Cool Just a Hint on Bluffing

If You're Bluffing, Don't Move

Y our opponents have a calling reflex. They came to your poker game hoping to be in action and hoping to call bets. They have a deep bias against folding. So, anything you do is apt to look suspicious and give them a reason to call. We've previously talked about deliberately triggering this calling reflex when you have a strong hand. You can jitter, wiggle, talk, or seem animated. This gives them reasons to call. Fine.

But the opposite is also true. If you're bluffing, it's usually a mistake to be animated. The more you do, the more suspicious they become, and the more apt you are to be called. The secret to how you should conduct yourself when you bluff is to be as unnoticeable as possible. But don't be too rigid and unmoving or your opponent might consider that suspicious in itself. The trick is to be as inconspicuous as possible without overdoing it.

Talking Yes!

it worked it really worked, i ended up losing 2 bucks, in a 5 dollar game, but i think it was well worth the experience. i was coming back in the end but they had to stop so they cashed out, i was on my way back. i semi-bluffed like 5-6 times and i fully bluffed like twice. the great thing is that they still think that i never bluff. which will work to my advatage cause i bluffed them and they didnt even know it. thank you.

Smile by the way...

after watching them play, i realized they are not that good, they are very obvious. i only got tricked like 2 or 3 times. when one of them bluffed, they'd be more still than a rock. and the other one, when he bluffed he put in way too much. so i'm not saying i'm good but its funny when they make fun of me and they dont even realize their own flaws.

i played on friday night - only 5 of us
any notion of me looking for bluffs went out the window when the host provided a plant pot full of ice and free beer!!!!!
played two games for a tenner each - won the first lost the second - good night had by all - i was actually quite lucky near the end and hit a run of very good cards - even had 4 aces.

Though i did start to notice when people were bluffing etc - though most of the time my cards were terrible and i was happy to fold anyways

bluffing is an intedgrual (sp) part of the game. Although, I like Fonz tend to semi-bluff a lot more than I make outright bluffs with nothing.

However, there are sometimes when a good bluff is needed and sometimes when you think you're going to do it no matter what you have in your hand.

Obviously it all depends on what players are on your table. If you've got some that will call anything or chase any ace down to the river then you should probably wait for them not to be in the pot.

Here's an example of a good bluff:

1. Raise before the flop in late position (make this raise large enough to knock people out and make them think you may have pocket aces / kings / queens etc but never re-raise the pot if you're going to bluff. The raise should already tell you someone's got a decent hand so you'd probably be beat anyway and they're not going to fold)
2. if you've raised large enough you may find you win the pot there and then but if you get some callers for the flop be ready to bet large again. - you should get a free card if you want it as the other players would check to you, although there's little point unless you think the turn may improve you hand so you're no longer bluffing.
3. so make another big bet on the flop. A lot of the time this will knock the rest of the players out as they will think you have flopped trips although again this will depend on the type of player and what has flopped.
4. if they're still in and call you bet to see the turn, see what they do. If they bet I would fold but if the check make a big bet again. As long as you've chosen the right time so the players in aren't the type that will chase an ace or just call with anything, you should knock them out here and take the pot.

I hope this makes sense. Obviously, it all depends on many circumstances but I find if I need to win a pot it's good to try this as long as you're in late position and haven't got chasers in the pot with you.
