Red face Anyone read Caro's Book of Poker Tells?

im thinking of getting Caro's Book of Poker Tells

has anyone read it?

someone at amazon wrote this about it

Quote:
For instance, when he sits down at a regular cash game...say 40-80 limit....the first thing he does is to take out a $100 bill and a match and burns the $100 bill to ashes while the other players at the table watch in astonishment. Now this shocks the whole table and instantly gives him an image of a loose playing maniac.
wish i had money to burn!!

i havnt read the book but ive heard good things about it. If your a good player and consistantly win but want to improve your game, this book is supposed to be a big help in learing to read your opponents.

If you read a book on players and play like they do,doesnt that take away from your game?Or are you just getting tips and little tid bits here and there.Ive always been stubborn kind of like to learn on my own...curious,Ive only been playing under a year but I enjoy the creativity of playing the game my way.

You have to pay attention to your opponents. If they are good they will tend to do the opposite of a normal tell to through you off. Especially if you advertise the fact you know how to read someone or have read a book on it. For the most part if your playing noobs then reading any tell book will help. However as I just stated does no good with good players.

the best way to learn to read is to play. its harder onlien cause you have to read bets. its easy wiht bad players because tehy will bet when they catch their hand, but can be sign more complicated with experienced players....

The whole point of using tells is to give yourself an advantage by narrowing down what your opponent might have. Little habits, ticks, and mannerisms are great tells that show when your opponent might be bluffing, nervous, have a monster, etc. Reading tells don't tell you how to play like professionals or anything, but it's just a facet of poker that can give players an advantage.

I have read Caro's book of tells, and I think it contains alot of useful information. Generally, if a person acts strong they're usually weak and vice versa. But personally I think tells are misleading and can be faked (Jennifer Hartman comes to mind here) so I wouldn't rely on them too heavily. Dan Harrington says he pays more attention to a players' hand movements and betting patterns more than anything else.
