Default $8-16 hand for analysis

Very standard table, 3-4 players in preflop, sometimes raised, sometimes not.

K9 spades in BB. Folded to button who is experienced, aggresive but neither tight or loose. I do not think he is exceptionally good or bad. He raises. SB, a very poor player calls. I call.

Flop- Js 9h 4c.
SB checks, I check, button bets. SB calls, I smooth call.
Turn- 8s. (Js 9h 4c 8s)
Check, I check, button raises, SB calls, I call.
River- 6s. (Js 9h 4c 8s 6s)
SB checks, I bet, button raises, SB calls, I call.

Comments please.

pfunk...first off i dont even know if i call preflop, and if i did i would have to assume i could beat my opponents whether i hit the flop or not.

I would have played it completely different than you....
On the flop i would have gone for an informational check raise.
this would most likely tell me if i am beat. I might even drive out a hand like j-10, something the sb might have.

PFunk.. if for some reason i just called the flop, I would have check raised the turn with my flush draw. If the button is an experienced player i dont think he can call you with out a monster in that spot.

WHO WON?

Your only big fear here is that he could be playing something like A4s. From late position a raise would definitly be worth it. If checked to me, I would have also bet the flop with bottom pair, one overcard and a backdoor flush draw. If you feel he might have raised with a large array of cards you should also factor in that perhaps he is playing something like Q10s or Q8s or even 107s He could have easily flopped or turned a straight and hit his backdoor flush on the river.

I agree with brad that I would have raised the flop or the turn to get a better idea of where I was at. I doubt that if he had any of the legitmate hands as above you would have knocked him out of the hand but you would definitly be able to access your situation and maximize or minimize the amount of money you won or loss.

Why no reraise, you have second nut, you probably will get three callers, and you have the small blind beat and a good chance you have the winner. You drew to that hand and hit I think you have to reraise there.

I agree with most, I played this hand horribly.
I like the call, no problem with that preflop.

I should have led out or check raised the flop. I like this hand post-flop.

I wouldn't be in this mess on the turn...

And on the river I definetly should have three bet. My reasoning at the time- His raise really confused me... I thought it was very obvious that I was drawing for the flush, I bet it, and he still raised... So that really slowed me down, but still a missed bet (two actually because the SB would have called three bets).

The SB showed 45 spades for the small flush and the LP player showed Q 10 for the turned straight... This brings up more problems though- Had I led out or check raised the flop I am pretty much required to lead out on the turn. He would have reraised obviously with the nuts and I am way behind... Any other thoughts/comments?

Then you call with your flush draw and if you hit great if not check and fold your hand. One of the benefits of limit you're allowed to draw. You'll be in for enough that even though your abour 5-1 dog a call is exceptable, one cause even if he reraised the turn im thinking that you'r not putting him on q10 therefore you'd think you have more outs than you do.

Lightbulb The power of the check raise

Check-raising the flop give you extra benefits, first of all it puts the brakes on your opponents so you might even get a free river card if you think you need to draw to win. Second, if your opponents do bet the turn, it should put your brakes on as they have just got a card that improved their hand, in this case you ought to be wondering if the bettor turned the nuts betting into someone who two-bet the flop. You would still make the call since you are getting 4 to 1 on your money to hit the flush on the river, but at least if a king falls you can proudly fold your hand instead of getting into trouble with two-pair against a straight. Lastly, after this information, when you hit the flush on the river you can get into a raising war confidently and get that 3rd bet. Just my thoughts,
Minnejohnny

ps hindsight is 20-20, nice draw and nice call
