| | | | Poker Book Thread I have recently gotten into reading poker books to try to take my game to the next level. I would like to discuss useful books and books to steer clear of. I would also like to hear others thoughts on books. I thought this may be a good main thread in which poker book discussions could take place. For now though, I will put in "If it aint poker, its in here." | |

| | | | Phil Hellmuths book is a waste of paper. He goes on talking about some of his great laydowns throughout the book and somewhere in-between those he fits in some basic poker strategy. Apparently he doesnt want to give away his game or something. | |

| | | | Even though Phil Hellmuth is trying to be cautious as you say, I personally havent read it yet (only heard him describe the book), he explains the different styles of poker people play, enabling you to spot accurately a players style. Also, telling about great laydowns shows people the hands pros laydown which shows people with lesser skill that letting go of good hands is a good move...
Anyways, I plan to read his book and the rest of poker books.
Off topic: Did anyone catch the special WPT last night, Poker By The Book? It was amazing. David Skalansky, Doyle Brunson, Phil Hellmuth, Mike Caro, T.J. Cloutier and Mike Sexton. Those were also the finishes in order of 1st-6th. There were no winnings/prizes involved, just bragging rights. | |

| | | | yes bluffin that is one good thing abuot his book, he explains in detail how to playa against all the different styles people have...only bad thing is that he labels them really wierd names
jakkal (loose-aggressive)
elephant(loose)
mouse(tight)
lion(tight-aggressive)
eagle(uh, i guess this is only available to phil because he says these are the best players in the world)

| | | | That is true, his names are wack, but his methods, reasonings, and knowledge is overwhelming, true, and accurate, you cant go wrong by reading his book. Even if he IS the Cry Baby of Poker. | |

| | | | Re: Poker Book Thread I've read SS2, T.J. Cloutier's book, and Caro's. All are extremely well written and have some great advice for playing in a LIVE game, not on the internet. I do play the occasional live game whenever I'm in LV or sometimes I go to a casino in Phoenix and play in their Saturday Tournament. I especially like Cloutier's book, it's very informative and give great advice for advanced players. Brunsons book is great, can't beat Doyle and he has something that no other book has, he gets the best players in the world in their certain game (limit, stud, no limit ect) and lets them write a chapter on that subject. Caro's is the best book on tells and now I have become very perceptive as to what is going on around me and how players act to having certain hands. I think that most poker players that have books out there do know what they're talking about. | |

| | | | Re: Poker Book Thread I think if i had to classify Phil Hellmuth the way he does he would go into his own class title "Jackass" | |
