Default Approved Member Suggestion

Fonz, hair brain wrote a post in the thread "New format for the next big freeroll" that got me thinking...since it is on page 8 and might get missed, I started this new thread. hair brain was suggesting a sort of approval "vote" and here is what I come up with:

If it is not difficult to become an approved member then you have just created a crack in the door that will let the ants in and eventually the crack will widen and the rats will start to enter.

I think that it sould be difficult to become an approved member and once becoming an approved member does not guarentee anything...an existing approved member can put up a poll to remove approved member status of an existing approved member.

If we have good tight rules for approved member status...then we have an "Elite" club of good players.

If we don't have tight rules...then we have "a dime a dozen" winners and our tournies are no better than the typical internet freeroll.

Fonz, what I am saying is to have two ways to become an approved member as follows:

1.) 100 quality post...then put before a poll of approved members - majority decides

2.) An approved member puts up poll for a member for approval that does not have the required 100 post, but based on play and attitude...and again majority of approved members decide.

And one way to become "unApproved"...an existing approved member puts up a poll to decide if an existing approved member is to be removed from approved member status, based on play or attitude....again majority decides. A removed player then has to work on re-gaining approved member status. Warnings could also be posted for the player to straighten out their act, before a poll is actually taken.

approval and re-moval...should not only be dicided on post's and length of membership but also on play and attitude.

In all cases Fonz...you would hold "veto power" and could reverse all decisions.

And also to continue with a satellite for non-approved members to win their way into the approved member tournament.

It should not make any difference if there are 5 or 500 approved players as long as they are quality players. If we have a lower number of approved players then more are let in by satellite and with higher number of approved players then fewer get in by satellite.

i agree with most of the above. still not sure if it's the best way to exculed people in our tourney's who don't support the site. something needs to be done with how the password is given out. also i'd hate to get my new approved status changed because i'm having a run of bad cards, instead i think some kind of active ranking on all thf tournaments. like to see a system based on avg finish as i think im a 10% -er. part of the sites main goal is to make us better not to judge our growth.

A run of bad cards, has nothing to do with it tigertye...but becoming an all-in freak on every hand or not posting anymore because you made it or becoming a faul mouth jerk in chats....could...losing or winning has nothing to do with it.

firstly, i appreciate the suggestion - its good that the forum is changing in a lot of ways due to member suggestions etc

i think this kind of system could have a lot of pros and cons

pros

as the site grows its gonna be more time consuming for me and staff to monitor approval. This would greatly reduce that.

cons

this could be abused though. We would have to ensure that members only looked at the members posts and didnt let any past disagreements cloud their judgement.

Also id be concerned it would create and us and them mentality - ive already seen elements of this with regards to new members. We dont want to turn into forum snobs - lol

however, you did mention that we would have to have good rules and if we did ensure that these rules were in place then i think it could improve the approval process.

you have to remember that the majority of members will get approval and the whole thing was set up to stop the garbage posters

lets hear from everyone else - im more than happy to put this in place

if you think yes then give a reason and if possible a rule which you think would be needed

ill start it off

rule - an approval discussion room would be created as a sub room of the approval lounge. Before the person is approved - the approval discussion thread for that person will be completely deleted to ensure that members dont see what was said about them

Sounds pretty good. I think it is true that it could get much easier to get approved. Well, whatever Fonz says, lol. Good thoughts though.

Cool

I'm not sure if I should post my thoughts on here since they were on the other thread, but I will anyway.

I think it is a great idea and gives mroe people a chance to contribute to the forum and make all their posts quality posts without having to worry about getting approval

Fonz...as far as the cons...yes you could have an approved member vote against an applicant because of past disagreements....but you would not have the majority of approved members vote against this individual because of the disagreements with one individual and besides don't forget you hold "veto power"

As far as us against them mentality, yes that could happen, but I think it is "childish"...I think it would create more desire to become an approved member.

Also...when I refer to based on a members play...I am not necessarly talking about a "winner", but am trying to eliminate the "all-in freak" on every hand or the player that constantly makes the dumbist plays that aggrevate the members. Occasional dumb plays are allowed, but not the majority of hands dumb plays.

Lastly...as far as an approved discussion room...I like it very much.

Suggestion...there could be a thread simular to what you have now...and every member that want's to become an approved member and does not have the required 100 quality post's can post their name in that thread. Now if an approved member wants to support the approval even tho the player does not have the required 100 post then the approved member can put it up to vote in the private approved member discussion room.

Now again majority rules...but there also should be a minimum vote rule..incase the approved members have not whatched the player in a tournament and the applicant does not have enough post for making a fair judgement. in other words you would not want 3 or 4 votes making a decision. It should require a minimum of x votes and then majority decides at that time it goes for final approval by The Fonz.

As far as the minimum vote rule, could we go with a percent instead of a number of votes? and those who have not seen the player can post or say they are abstaining from the voting? Then the minority percent would be representative of the majority most likely.

Also, would members who are approved by voting in turn be able to vote on anyone else, or would only those who have 100+ posts and OFFICIALLY approved be able to vote. I personally see no problem with both, especially cause it would mean lots of extra work for Fonz and crew to pay attention to when those who are voted get to "official" status.
