It does get annoying at times to see some of the old threads come up.But some of the old threads may contain useful information for the newbies that will get them started posting.

thats true xtra, but it doesn't matter because the THF "hit squad" will give them their final warning before banning for bringing up old threads. been there done that! we need to be more laxed with newbies

I dont think archiving posts would make any difference because chances are someone who replied to it
* either found it via a search engine and wanted to comment
or
* noticed the date but didnt care

This is a problem all forums have. As you said though, if they are commentating on an old thread which is completely not relevant now we can close the thread

I like old posts and would hate for them to be archived....as the big man said depending on how they found the post/thread depends on what kind of response it gets......there is nothing wrong I feel in starting up old conversations if they still hold some relevance today......I feel that's the benefit of being part of a forum....what's no longer applicable to you might be the very information that someone new requires.

Also if they were site bound anyway by pulling up an old thread may mean they have actually searched the forum first until they found something they felt confident enough to comment on.

If it's relevant continue the conversation and if it's not delete the post and inform the member why.......don't close the thread however IMO as this would prevent someone who did have something worth saying in the thread.

Just my tuppence worth....!!!!

If some one were to delete our more bloody threads, hence avoiding old fights being revived, I would be very happy. If threads that relate to some specific time frame were deleted, who cares? (You know, "who's going to win todays football?"). But generally informative threads are still relevant and if some newbie wants to resurrect them then why not? Sometimes it pays to be reminded of the basics, or see how our opinions have changed with experience. And hell, if someone is taking the care to read all that old stuff, then you can bet your sweet bippy this is no fly by night visitor and is therefore someone we want on board, not someone we want to ban, or even warn. Yes it is some times tedious when old threads resurface, but saying it should never happen and is some sort of offence is just plain ludicrous.
