A small change has been made to the forum. Where once there was a "professional poker player" tag this has been replaced by "Online Shark". This is an attempt to come up with a more meaningful label as well as a label that many players can realistically strive towards.
This is something of an experiment and it may not last more than a few months. Hopefully it will be a success and last a good while though. It is being based initially entirely on people's "sharkscope" stats under SNG's (not MTT's or Ring games). It might get broadened later but this is unlikely.
Q- Why Use Sharkscope?
This may seem a slightly arbatory tag. Obvious questions arise such as "I consistantly win at ring games why cant I get a similar label?" "why not count MTT's?", "why only stars results?" all seem quite obvious. The problem is that these though easy to produce stats for are quite hard to assess and factoring in Bankroll management and other factors we would end up with something that would be either too complex to manage, too hard for members to qualify for and probably something that is less fun and less obtainable to members. Sharkscope is one of the most popular of these player rating sites and is often used in banter on THF/ Stars.
Q- Why stars?
It is the largest poker site on which most THF members play. This may be widened in time but want to keep things easy initially
Q - How do I get Shark Status on THF?
if you are an approved member visit Approved Members Lounge if not brag ceaslessly until an Approved Member recommends you for Shark status. Please note though that you need to be classed as a "shark" on SNG stats on Sharkscope for this to count. Otherwise you are not a shark EVEN if you have won more money than everyone else or are going to be the next Grey Raymer etc.
Q-Why can I not apply directly to be a shark? Why dont you know anyway and classify me already?
We are all fallible and cannot know everyone on the site. it is fairest to get people to apply and in order to make the implimentation smooth I have restricted this to Approved Members (a small perk) for the time being. This doesnt stop them nominating non approved members though.
Q- How often will this be updated?
Requests to become sharks will be processed about once a week. Status will be checked once a month and those who have dipped below shark status will have their status removed. It is a Current record of rating rather than something to be aquired indefinately.
Q-Are there any perks of being a shark?
Not at the moment other than getting the "shark" tag which might get you a bit of kudos at the forum. Might create some extra bonuses such as a "shark" room or something but nothing of this sort is planned at the moment.
Q- Can I get my status removed because I dont want others to know my skills?
Yes you do need to pm a leader or admin about this though and there may be a week or so delay in having this processed.
Any other questions feel free to ask. It will proceed according to the rules as stated initially unless there are obvious faults that need to be sorted.
the 180 man games enabled me to be a shark for 5 months or so+ if that answers your question kaart - otherwise I would have bordered on a goldfish bowl. (which is probably what my stats say now.)
