Default Sunday League - review

Ok guys 4 weeks doesn't seem long enough for a league so what I suggest is this,

We run two leagues which are bi-monthly leagues so :

league one at stars sunday 4.30 march-april, may - june etc...

league two at *site to be decided* on *day to be decided* *time to be decided* april-may, june - july etc...

This makes the league 8-9 weeks long and as we have 2 leagues covers the monthly prizes that would just leave MARCH prizes but I am sure we can come up with a way to use them up.

So I put this here for your feedback it is your leagues you need to help us make them better, so where would you like the league 2 to be held? what day? what time?

Thanks guys

THF Player of the Year
Doesn't seem long enough for who? Three members responded in the February league thread saying they want the league to be one month. I would appreciate it if one of those leagues was just 1 month.

if you do make a second league, you'd have to make sure it was on a site available to US players, because not doing so is not cool

I agree. I dont think that 4 games is long enough to be considered a league. It makes each game so important, and not everyone can make each and every game. I tried to make the league this week, but got screwed by the game mess up. So now Ive missed the first two, there is no point in playing the rest of the month.

That would not work as 1 bi-monthly and 1 monthly league would mean we would need 1 set of prizes every other month and two sets of prizes for the rest of the months.

I'm also leaning toward a bi-monthly league as monthly leagues are fun but they are very short. Theres no time for dramatic comebacks and as the league grows you will find it very very difficult to keep up with the top 3 when only 4 games are played. Its not too noticible right now as we only have 15 or so players, but once we reach 30 you'll notice a difference. Three players from every month with those turnouts will have fantastic showings in the first 3 games which will pretty much seal it up.

In regards to the dueling leagues idea, would they be the same format or would they be different? I think a singles league and a team league would be nice. If we are going to another site than having a team league there would have an advantage as teamates would be able to help each other out getting funds transfered if they are normally stuck on stars or some other site their partners play on. The issue with this is would we be able to have enough players to feild a team league on another site?

As I said in the other thread, everyone voted for a 4-game, $5.50, sunday league. This is what everyone wanted and this is what everyone got. Raising the buy-in back up to $10 is just out of the question in my opinion. The one major flaw that sticks out with the 8 game league (there are many more) is that it just lasts too long. After about 5 games or so people will start to fall behind and will get discouraged and they won't play the rest of the games in that league. I love the current time, place, and overall setup of the league. If anything, the reason why the league numbers went down is because the league got changed around too much, in my opinion.

I don't see this being an issue if we have dueling bi-monthly leagues as after 4 weeks, if you are falling behind, the other league is just starting a new one and you can join that one.

A drop off in turnouts toward the end of the leagues should be less of an issue considering the $5 instead of $10 buy-in but even still, the larger the league grows, the less of a problem it will be as the points will pan out more evenly. And ultimatly, it would just change strategy as the first 4 games would be important to do well in. It wouldn't be perfered by everyone but its ultimatly a self-repairing problem in the end.

A league that lasts longer than 4 games? Wow!!! What a novel idea. Why didn't I think of that? {hint the sarcasm}

Rat brought up the point in a previous post that a 6 week league would also work. I'd have to agree with Rat. Not too long and not too short. Sort of like Goldilocks' pourage if ya get what I'm sayin? ............... Or for people like GoBlue....."If ya smellalalalala..... what the "B"..... is cookin?

Just read that someone felt a 6 week league wouldnt work as well becuse of prizes being handed out every 6 weeks and Fonz gets prizes every 4 weeks.

That can be worked around quite easily. Lets say the prizes are one dollar bills for the sake of this example. Fonz gets 4 dollar bills from sponsors at the end of week 4. The league ends at week 6. But in week 8 fonz will get another 4 dollar bills and the current league will only be in week 2. He takes 2 of those dollars along with the 4 dollars from the first month and makes the payout. Now when the next league ends, Fonz will already have 2 of the dollar bills and will be scheduled to recieve his third shipment of 4 more dollar bills.

Ahhhhh screw it!!!!!!!! just go to 8 weeks. All this thinking is making my head hurt. But it can be done.
