I know, we can't have everything, but just in case....

Lately the number of hits one gets from clicking on Daily Posts seems to have gone up. Good for the site but it can take quite a while now to go through them all. Maybe I'm blind, usually am, but I can't see anyway of just selecting one of those threads and saying Mark As Read directly from the search results page. This would save a considerable amount of time when the forum is busy. (I suppose the same would go for FRF).

I'm pretty sure there used to be a mark as read facility somewhere or other, but I don't recall seeing it recently. Maybe I'm just using the site differently and not going to the right place any more.

In the meantime, if I unsubscribe from a thread, would that stop it coming up in Daily Posts? I'd try it out, but there wasn't anything I wanted to unsubscribe just now, as I'll check every still active thread occasionally, but when I feel like it.

if your logged in the threads which you have read should be in normal text whilst the threads with posts which you havent read will be in bold

unsubscribing from a thread will not stop it coming up in daily posts. Subscription to a thread refers to email updates - if you subscribe to a thread you will get an email if theres a new post. You will keep getting emails about new posts to the thread however you wont get another email if you havent read the thread.
ie. say you subscribe to this thread. an hour later someone else replies and you'll get an email telling you theres a new post to the thread. If you dont actually follow the link and visit the thread and there are other replies you shouldnt get any other emails because youve already been told once that theres a reply. However, if you get the first email and then follow the link and read the first reply, when another reply to the thread is made you will get an email about it

Understood. The thing I was wanting though, was to be able to set bolded threads to normal from the Daily Posts page. At the moment I'm doing it by going to the last post of threads, even though they are ones that don't interest me. So I just thought it would be nice to be able to avoid that. Mark As Read seemed like a way of doing it.

Cheers

well the bold will tell you about threads with new posts which you havent read.....but they will remain bold even if you have read the thread before ie. theyre telling the threads have been updated, not that you havent looked at the thread at all

Ah indeed, quite true. Whilst you live with one set of search results. But being a clever bugger, once I've gone though everything, I hit the button again. This gives me a very succinct list of the very latest posts, they are the only ones in bold now. And as soon as I've read those, I hit the button again. If nothing is new I'll try again 1/2 hour later, if I'm still around. It's the start of the session when there are loads of threads to wade through that takes the time. Which is why I was trying to figure a shortcut method, especially for days like today when something is wrong locally and pages are taking forever to load.

I think I thought everyone would do that, so I guess I didn't explain it properly. Sorry.
