Default 7 Stud Turning Point

One of my friends was just talking to me about how he just hit what i like to call the turning point in your 7 stud career.

Its when you realize you dont need a pad and paper to recall how many queens were in play or how many clubs are left in the deck to make your flush. As you train your mind to remember these things, it gets easier and easier to the point where writing it down is a waste of time and energy.

As a hold em fan, I love the simplicity of hold em where most of the time its routine play, you know how to play it, and it really comes down to specific situations that you have to be patient and wait for all night. But when it gets there you sit up, rub your hands together and say, here we go. I usually play two or three tables at a time when in fun tourney styles (that wont cost me money, or much money anyway from not having devoted attention to the other players).

But hold em could not possibly match the strategy and openess of 7 stud which is why i can never say i like hold em better than 7 stud. 7 stud allows for more styles, more knowledge, and more ways to out play your opponents.

Anyone else care to share when they reached this point in thier 7 stud play.

I hated the game it annoyed me alot.Omaha hi lo gave me a headache and stud bored me.I like em all now.A friend told me something he saw about stud on TV and it was in one ear and out the other.
I played every freeroll on PS once I found them no matter the type of game.I was watching espn or fox one day and heard the announcer say what my friend had told me about stud (it was a repeat of what he had watched).I went out and got 23rd that night out of a few thousand I believe.I dont think my best finish before that ever broke a thousand, after that I was a completely different player.
It was just a little thing. If you cant beat what someone else has up dont play it.I already had done the things you are speaking of ,but for some reason me hearing the announcer say that on TV that evening changed me in a snap of the fingers to a better stud player.I dont know why it was,but that was my turning point.

Well cowboy first thing I did was read ol Chip Reese's 7stud section in the Super System. Now when I play first thing I do before betting or calling the first bet is look around and start counting my cards that are out and if I have 3 to a straight or flush look around and count how many of those are out. Then its either fold or play time, after the first round its not that hard if a lot of people fold and 3 people are left in the pot. Then I talk to people and they say they don't even look around and see if their cards are out, and I am like how the hell can you play like that?

I wondered the same thing. But i found they are usually hold em players. A lot of lazy people play hold em and don't even look into stud because theres a lot more to think about. I don't find stud very hard at all, and its a lot more fun because you feel more sure about your plays.
