| | | | Stud Hi/Lo what hands do you play? I am beginning to love more and more the game of Stud Hi/Lo and I was wondering what cards were you guys playing?
Personally, I only call if I have a pair higher than 6, three of a kind (obviously), three cards suited, three cards connected (or both) or three low cards (8 or lower). At first I thought that was gonna happen frequently but it seems like it's not that often that these kind of hands are dealt to you.
What are the starting hands that you players of Stud Hi/Lo call to see the fourth street?

| | | | Ben, I play a lot of H/L poker. Omaha and Stud. As for Stud H/l, you pretty much summed up the top starting hand requirements. Good job, and good luck.

| | | | At a full table(8). I will play 2 cards lower than 5 with something else that helps in some way. Exp.. 225, 233, ect. | |

| | | | Here's my basic, (emphasis on basic) template:
Raise if three low cards (if I say this, it means no pairs, obviously)
Call if two low and one high.
Fold if one low and two high
Fold if three high
EXCEPTIONS:
If you have, say, AKQ, (2 high, one low), that's worthy of a call.
A golden rule in Stud H/L is that you cannot sweep (take the entire pot) with a good high hand. You can, however, sweep if you have a low hand. Therefore, to try and sweep (as should always be the goal in H/L), starting with low cards (which nearly guarentees a shot at the Lo pot) may lead to a straight, a flush, two pair, trips, whatever; thereby giving you a very good Hi hand to go along with your low hand.
Also, slow playing in Stud H/L: Terrible Idea. I'd only try it if I am dealt a wheel (A2345; the best Lo hand)

| | | | Doyle In Super System Doyle Brunson says you should play hands that can win the
whole pot or are very strong one way. He says it is also not profitable to play
hands like KK2 and if you get a picture card on 4th street to fold. He says the
best hand is 345 suited. Thats Doyle's input, now goodluck at the tables.

| | | | Ill play alot of hands. But as for calling, Id have to see the other cards on the table.Il call on any pair (if another isnt on the table) especially if both are down.3 suited and/or low.Took me a while to figure out that 27 will beat A8 on the low side.Once a friend explained that to me my game improved.Enjoy the game ,seems like you have a good plan. | |

| | | | i like the starting hands u mentioned, just remember to always look at ur opponents showing cards cuz even with a good starting hand, if half the cards u need are already in your opponents hands then ur just waiting for trouble | |

| | | | This is personally my favorite game to play. Like other people have mentioned, a high hand can only win half the pot no matter what. A low hand, however, can sometimes change into a high hand also. I like to play most of the hands that benmoffet mentioned, nothing is worse then getting a pair in the hole, and watch as the other two cards come out for other people. | |

| | | | You pretty well summed it up. as mastafrick said watch the other players cards. If I'm suited or running in the direction of a str8 It would do me no good to continue if the cards I need are on the board.
And I have to disagree with eman as far as KK2 being a bad hand to start with. There is always a high hand winner, but now always a low hand...

| | | | I have been playing stud for many years, this seems to be a favorite choice with my friends and neighbors. When I started playing on-line I would play hi/lo stud. I am not trying to repeat what has already been said but I always play for the low hand. I nearly always look at the 4th card to make my decision whether to continue or not. I will never play the hand if I have two high cards to start unless they are a pair or hi suited. By doing this I have been able to do well in tourneys and sitandgoes. | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
