On 5th I'm free rolling to my gut shot. On a hand like this I will bet/raise.
It helps me two ways: 1)when I hit the gut shot, I've built up the pot, improving my expectation. 2)if my opponent is keeping track of my play, it looks like I will raise with just a low, encouraging them to play weak highs against a low board for me.
A typical hand like this for me would go, bring in/limp late. check 4th, call it with good pot odds and friendly up cards. Go to war on 5th street.
