It's more of a low stakes philosophy in general: People call too much, So I make them pay me off.
And I almost never have money going in to a heads up pot where I plan to only win half of it.
(finished out of the money this week by the way).
I don't adhere strictly to "play hands to scoop" and I have been known to just go after the low, but it will be in situations where at least two others are putting money in.
Like say, I will have (A 3) 7 6.
Player 2: (x x) K A
Player 3: (x x) 8 5
I'm a favorite to make the best low, I've got outs (back door, and maybe the ace) for the high. And player 3 is likely going to call with his low draw, which would be a mistake. Ideally, I hit my low and get at least 1 bet out of player 3. And if it goes heads up against player 2 when he has no low hand (maybe 5th street is a ten) I'll jam it all the way when I'm free rolling against him.
But the other big thing is I don't play those often, I do them once in a while to round out my hands to be sure I'm playing enough. And it will put me in good semi bluff situations against good players. I stick to the quality hands, and generally get good value out of them.
