Reviewed 4th June 2006 This is the THF review of a custom poker guard from PokerGuard.
You can comment on this review here.
PokerGuard produce high quality card protectors by request. They have a wide range of standard designs to choose from but they will put any logo or design you want if you prefer something personal. All of the guards are made from .999 pure silver. Most of the guards are in the $30-$40 price range.
I decided to get the Pocket Aces Poker Card Protector design (see here). The guard has pocket aces on the back and the THF logo on the front.
You can see what the back of the guard looks like from the picture below.
Had a good look at the picture above?? Good...because you wont see another good picture of the guard from me. Now my photography skills are average at best.....many a holiday maker has complained about getting their hard cut off by my poor camera clicking skills. However, even i've been surprised about how hard its been to photograph the pokerguard card protector.
Why you may ask - well because the guard is the most reflective item i have ever seen in my life. The next generation of lighthouses will be using these guards to shine light out to sea. In all seriousness, i do apologise for the pictures in this review. I took over a dozen pictures and sadly the 4 in this review were the best i could get. When it was too bright you couldnt see the guard due to the light shing back. Conversely, when i dimmed the lights the pics weren't clear and they were not doing the guard justice.
I know the 4 pictures i have taken do not do the pokerguard justice so please believe me when i say that the guard is stunning. It really is eye catching. I got my custom THF card protector from pokerguard about a week and a half ago and have played 3 or 4 times since then and so far i have had over a dozen people ask me about it.
The guard is surprisingly light with the silver coin protected by a plastic case. When i first got the coin i noticed a little dust inside the case. At the time i didnt realise that you could open up the plastic case and take the silver coin out. When you take the coin out you get to see how cool the guard is. Its made of solid silver and after a quick clean with a cloth it was looking even better than when it first arrived. The coin is about the size of a standard poker chip.

All in all i am very pleased with the guard. In comparison to other card protectors, the pokerguard is a lot less 'In Your Face'. It's a little more classy however you will still get praise for it when you sit at the table. With the prices ranging from $30-$40 the pokerguard is about twice the price of some other card protectors on the market though the range of designs you can choose from and the option to add your own custom logo or text justifies the extra $15 in my opinion.
Check out PokerGuard to see the full range available.
Update June 20th 2006
PokerGuard have been kind enough to take some high quality pictures of the THF poker guard. Enjoy!
