This is the THF review of 2 poker guards from Mucking Sucks.
You can comment on this review here.

First off, here are some things to bear in mind for this review poker guard review
  • Pics taken with 2 megapixel camera : I still cant locate the small plastic charger for my 5 megapixel camera. I took the battery to a camera shop to see if they had a basic ion lithium battery charger. I was quickly informed that only the sony charger would work and that costs £50 (at todays rates thats $86!). I really do need to stop buying sony products as they shaft you when it comes to the price of their accessories. Anyhoo, the pics in this review were taken with the 2 megapixel camera in my sony ericsson phone. The quality isnt fantastic but they should suffice for the purpose of this review.
  • I love poker guards!! : I play at my local poker club on sundays and mondays and i sometimes go to the cincinattis poker club in glasgow at the weekend. I also fidget a lot. So whilst a poker guard is recommended for anyone who doesnt want their cards mucked by mistake, its also a lifeline for anyone who gets bored quickly during a 6 hour poker session. I'm constantly twirling the card protector, flipping it over and over etc. Its just habit now when im waiting for the action to be on me.
  • Mr PC desk needs cleaned : Dont think i need to explain that one!
The 2 card protectors from Mucking Sucks which i'm reviewing retail for $17.95.

The first guard is just for the ladies. It shows a diamond royal flush with 'Royal Diamonds' written at the top and 'Are a girls best friend' at the bottom. Included with it is a red holding pouch.

The second guard has the ace and king of spades with 'Big Slick' written at the top and 'See ya at the river' at the bottom. This is presented with a black holding pouch.

Included free with every purchase is a wooden poker dollar. Mucking Sucks states on their website that 'If you leave the table for any reason take the card guard - Leave the wooden dollar!'. The idea is simple - don't leave your beloved card guard sitting for some kleptomaniac to sneak it into their skyrocket. Surely they arent gonna fool us with such a cheap gimmick!!! Well, they might just. It clearly doesn't cost them much to throw the wooden dollar in with purchases but its actually harder than it looks and wont be easily broken. Whilst it may be a sales gimmick its still good getting something for nothing, bearing in mind that the actual card protectors are fairly priced in the first place.

The first thing that will strike you about the guards is how colourful they are. They are sure to get a few players poking their eyes over your shoulder enquiring for a closer look. Like a lot of poker guards, the back of the protectors don't have anything except 'www.muckingsucks.com 2006'. Though this isnt a major gripe.

The guards are about the size of a standard dealer button - pretty much exactly the same size as the poker guard from dealerbuttons.com. However, these guards are more than half as thick and are much much lighter. A big plus! I think they got the weight right. It's not a dead weight like the one from dealerbuttons however its as not light as some of the casino chips ive seen people use. I personally still want my guard to stand out a little and be distinguishable from the chips in play!

All in all i have been very impressed with the guards. They're the right size, not too heavy, colourful and at $17.95 quite fairly priced. The delivery to the UK took less than a week so i'm sure delivery times to those in the USA are even better.
Visit Mucking Sucks to find out more. They have many other poker guards in the same size etc however they also have some larger slightly more expensive guards too as well as poker branded hats (though im not a big fan of the hats they have on sale!).
