how do you play this hand??

your on the button and in top ten in chips.blinds are 150/300. you are dealt QJc. small blind doubles blind. you call.

flop is 9c Jd Qh.

you bet 300 chips. small blind (who is table chip leader) goes all in.

what do you do? you lose your tourny is done. you win your toury chip leader. or do you just fold top 2 pair?

i would like to har how others would play this hand. i feel i am a decent tourny player. i have qualified for the PS 350k and placed in the money in tournys at jetset,party,and PS.

once i hear some input i will tell you how i played the hand and some of the comments after the hand was over.

i would have to be playing with this guy for a while to see how he plays or his tendancys , But if you must know what i would, I think i would call simply becouse to flop the nuts the odds are slim. Also he could be bulling you outa the pot becouse he knows your in the top ten in chips and knows you will fold so you dont lose your high position and be knocked out. I put him on a Big straight draw, (open ended perhaps) or AA just trying to protect them from a draw out or something.

It depends how he plays. If he is tight, I think he flopped a King high straight. If he is a chip bully, I would call him down knowing that.

Anything under a 10 dollar buy in I would call it up. You have a real strogn hand and 4 outs for the monster hand. 10 dollars or more and I'm looking to finish in the money so I get my buy in back. Once your in the money Thats a no brainer call for me.

I'd call it as well. The only hands that have you beat at that point are AK, K8, 78. You still have 4 outs to beat the straight. I guess it wouldnt be considered wrong to fold here, but it is a pretty tight play and I think if you are playing for the win you'd call him there. Chances are he has either a K or and 8 (probably a king due to preflop raise) and is drawing at the straight. The preflop raise would scare me a bit, thinking that he may have AK but that would be a risk I'd be willing to take.

your forgetting about Nine Nine Jack Jack and Queen Queen

You have to call...and if your opponent has TK pockets, or something else that beats you, then so be it. You can't run from every battle...you have top 2 pair.

My guess is, the guy was slow playing AA or KK to trap you, now the flop goes down 9,J, Q, rainbow...you bet 300, he put's you on 1 pair and goes all-in before you get 2 pair.

We are always thinking "what hand can beat us", we have to think "what does my opponent have".

Its poker folk's, you know "gambling". I just lost my $70 table bank in a .10/.20 cash game pot...I had KK (SB) my opponent (BB) had 55...I raised pre-flop my opponent re-raised, I re-raised back and my opponent put me all-in...I lost to three 5's....now was I sapose to think...I should have never called the all in because my opponent could have 55 and draw a 3rd 5, or that my opponent might have AA...or that if i went all-in on my first bet my opponent might have folded and I could have picked up a cool 20 cents without the risk...its "gambling folks"

As far as the tournament goes....play it to win...not to sneak into first!

with a small pre-flop raise i am thinking he might have been holding pocket kings and may have been waiting and making sure an ace didnt hit. then maybe hoping you just hit top pair in which he would trap, but then again i could be way off base here.
